1948 203 for Sale (sunroof) - Sydney

Hey Dan,
I'm Sammy. I've been PM'ing you on Facebook about your steering wheel! I'm interested in it I'm just trying to figure out when I can make the trip down to collect it!
I remember seeing something very similar to yours for about 7k a few years ago. Yours is exceptional value for money, but as @Russell Hall has stated in the post above mine. I really wanted a blank canvas with some work required. I've always wanted to do my own body work and have some help with some mechanical work. Luckily my dad is a qualified mechanic, and having owned 2 x 203's in the past the latter (hopefully) be okay!

Nicely done Sammy! Looks like you're in good hands with the father and son duo. If in need of other parts, always try to look at ebay France (.fr). They generally have parts lurking around here and there. https://www.franzose.de/en/Peugeot/ is also another good one. If you visit 'Peugeot Wreckers' in the sub headings of main page, there are a few wreckers that hold 203 parts here in Australia. Graham Wallis, is one that comes to mind. He helped me along my journey a few years back, from main bearings to windscreen wiper motors, he had it.

Sammy, please start a resto thread with lots of pictures asap.
ps there being no variations on the 203 sedan’s shape the term ‘slopeback‘ is redundant.
I definitely will! Car has been sitting inside the garage for the past week as I've been trying to study for an exam. I will definitely start a thread! I do also have a dedicated instagram for it (@203_baguette) if you'd like to follow me along that way!

Thank you James! I definitely intend to keep these resources bookmarked and saved. I need to catalogue what I've got and figure out what I need for the build!

Hi Sammy,
I wish you the very best with the resto. When I did mine it meant the world to me and I just did nothing but eat breathe and sleep 203 for about 6 months. I was really happy with the outcome at first but the finish was a fail in the end. It went from a glass surface to cracked and crazed over a decade and it was seriously disappointing. So I have two really big words for you. TWO PACK!
Do not let anyone talk you into using anything else. Use two pack undercoat in a dry environment. Use two pack colour and clear. You will never regret it even if it costs a little more. In twenty years it will look like the day it came off the gun. O yes, you will need to garage it out of sun and rain. Also take the time to seal the subfloor with anti rust paint such as POR15[look it up, it's amazing] and then give it all a lovely lick with some black sound deadening underbody putty and black bitumen style sealer.
Take off your front guards, I never did, and fit new rubber between it all.
I removed my doors but I've seen a few restos since where they kept the doors on. Have a good think about that. I think on balance it is best to leave them be as thumping out those pins and then back again may not be a happy thing.
Hood lining was good in mine so I let it remain which was a nuisance for the wiring to the light and the external top buttons. I did tap into them however while I had the screens out and rewired so they flashed at the top like a modern car. You can get brand new ones of those from France. They are a stiff push fit.
The screens push out. As you have the small rear window which is flat you can have both screens remade by obriens from laminated glass. Some prefer shatter glass. If you have lam glass you MUST have seatbelts fitted all round but why wouldn't you anyway? New rubbers from France. Many of the door and boot rubber profiles can be had from Clark Rubber and maybe even Supercheap these days.
Get the lesson on fitting new suspension bushes, no doubt your Dad knows that one.
Get a spin on oil filter unit from the Victorian Club.
I've sent that wheel on with the car to the new owner. When he finally gets it I'll pass your details in case he wants you to have it.
The engines are a lovely thing to build. I did a few and they all worked very well. The only problem I ever had was when someone who I won't name told me not to worry about the cracks between the plug holes and the valve seats because 'they all have it'.
I went along with this advice as the person is luminary, but sadly it cost me the $450 fee for doing the skim and setting up the valves because when fitted it blew compression and thus oil up the sides of the plugs and was a total disaster.
So I took a series of heads, as I had a few then, and the guys at Unlimited Head Jobs in Ashfield chose the best and welded up and built up around those weak areas to make me a head that has stood the test of time. I will add a criticism though. For some weird reason they didn't know how to properly peen the big welsh plugs into the rear of the head and this was pointed out to me after it was running again. So I had to take the head off yet another time to do that job properly myself. So although I had rebuilt at least four of these engines before, for some reason this one was sent to test me which it did. I can say however that in this case I won because that engine is still running sweet since 2010 and till I sold it was the most reliable car in the fleet and I expect it will continue to be so for many years.
Please don't hesitate to contact me for advice . I'm not a guru but I have a lot of knowledge and experience with these cars.
Cheers
Dan

I remember Gordon Miller telling a windscreen place that the 203 screens went in from the inside. They didn't believe him and rang him up to tell him of the trouble they were having. 403 rear windows are the same. By the way Deane, your brake bits have been sitting outside my factory for months now.

Oh Lord! Sorry Graham matters medical erased it from what's left of my mind (Long story.) This coming week is also committed to hospitalisation and specialists. I will ring and arrange something for the following week if that's okay? Once again....apologies.
