12 Gordini Lower Control Arms? (now FWD vs the world)

But the FIA 2 liter world rally cup did. And the winners (whilst it was running)

93 - GM - Escort RS2000
94 - Skoda - Vavorit
95 - Peugeot - 306 Maxi
96 - Seat - Ibiza
97 - Seat - Ibiza
98 - Seat - Ibiza
99 - Renault - Maxi Megane

FWD Whoooo :D
Good example. But I think the RS2000 was RWD.

True, but in a specific environment. 4WD has definitely proved it's better on and off road, so the only question left is what to make of FWD? Is it just a better platform for convenience of manufacturing?
No it gives a car more interior space because there no transmission components intruding into the cabin.

A 4x4 system is also more complex and also has more power loss through the transmission.

True.

But I think initially FWD was introduced because it was easier hence cheaper to manufacture (at some point).

Regarding interior space, think of a rear engine/RWD Renault. Remember the front floor? clean, nice and flat, you could reach the pedals form the passenger seat. I always thought that was really neat.

Safety. Think battering ram.
Get two cardboard boxes.
Strap a brick to each one.
Drop them from a couple of metres onto a slab of concrete.
One with a brick on top.
The other with the brick on the bottom.
QED.

Knowing this, I happily drive both F and R engines.
Rear is more fun, but I am kinda more careful....
