Help advise wanted please

Hi all. Iv got a 2006 megane convertible coupe.
It's coming up on dash braking fault...as a result when I put foot on brake I can't get it out of park and can't start...any ideas appreciated

Check to see if brake lights are working,if not working check fuses,because I think shift lockout runs through signal from brake light switch (if same as later clio).if fuses ok it may be faulty brake light switch.jim

Thanks. Brake light are working. Car was sitting for 18mths. The 1st few times I started the car it was perfect...then I took it for a drive around the block & that's when the check brake light come on.
No good from there

There is a solenoid that moves a pin to let you move from park, maybe this is faulty. Also there is a manual button to release from the park position. Well there is on my Renault Laguna ii.
