205 cambelt differences? Anybody?

    Default 205 cambelt differences? Anybody?

    Conflicting stories over the BBQ with a beer....are the DFZ [early ] and DKZ 205 Gti cambelts/tensioners and water pumps the same.
    Some people seem to think they are including some parts suppliers however i'm sure the belts at least are different. My info tells me early cars had 75 teeth and later models 88 teeth?
    Tensioners seem to be the same accross all models....yes/no?
    Waterpumps seem to be different again pending on early or late GTI. 20 teeth?

    Can anybody shed some light on these head scratching questions....as i have a carton riding on it !!

    Depends on the type of tensioner, I think the later eccentric pully tensioner cars had an extra tooth on the cambelt compared to the earlier spring loaded ones.
    This happened in the early 90s, in the era of the SIs, some SIs had a spring loaded tensioner, some had the eccentric pully.
    Water pumps were all the same.

    Cheers for that Graham.
    Further info reveals that they are different in all respects.
    Up to mid 92 they used 113 teeth belt....after that 114 teeth belt.
    Both engines have different part numbers for belts, tensioners and water pumps.
    I now have these numbers if interested.
