    Default 206 GTi short motor

    Hi all,

Does anybody know whether the bottom end of the 206 GTi motor (2002) is identical to the 8-valve version, or indeed any other variant? I believe that the motor is the same one that powers the 307.

I have scored big-end journals and I am looking at swapping the bottom end if possible/cheap.

    Regards,
    John.

8 valve version of what? The XU10?

The EW10J4 appeared in late model (1999 and on) 406s, every 206 GTi and all 2 litre 307s delivered in Oz. They are all 16V motors with an alloy block. Later models (EW10A) have VVT, but I don't think the block was changed much.

I must admit, I'm not sure if they are at all similar to the XU10 motor bottom end, but I suspect not.
    Regards,

    Simon

Thanks for replying. I understood there was an 8-valve version of the EW10J4. I'm in error? That's good. That means more sources of donor engines, I expect. Or is there an unrelated engine fitted to non-GTi 206s?

Do you know where I can find a list of vehicles with the engine?

The 206 (as delivered in Australia) came with two engines: a 1.6 and a 2.0 engine. The 1.6 initially was an 8V engine, before being sold exclusively as a 16V version, whereas the 2.0 was always a 16V motor.

I've listed all the models that it came with, but you're looking at post update (or D9) 406s, all 307s and all 206 GTis. 2005 model 307s and 206 GTis have the EW10A with VVT on the inlet cam.
    Regards,

    Simon

The 206 GTi never came with the EW10A, only the EW10J4.

    Thanks Troy.

I probably shouldn't post straight after nightshift.
