Default 205 clucth cable mount bracket findings.

i dropped in to the mechanics and he showed me something interesting.
he is putting a new clutch in a 205 gti and showed me why the customer was complaing if not being able to select gears properly apart from the worn clutch.
the bracket where the clutch cable adjustment end is had actually started to open up at the cylindrical housing that takes the adjustment mechanism.
this is usually a small cast tunnel attached to the end of a bracket but had cracked and was opening up more and more with use.
no wonder the cable wasnt doing its job properly.
ill post some pictures tommorrow to explain it better.
so if your having selection probs, check this mechenism.-BAZZ

    Default cable bracket

Same thing happened to me - I kept driving and was going to get a new one but it broke totally off the next day in peak hour traffic!

It was my car that was at the mechanics, and I've actually got it back after 3 weeks. Replaced CV shafts and clutch at the same time. As Baz said the gear selection problem was due to the clutch fork and not the cable. The fork was about $70.00 but it took a while for it to get from Sydney to Melbourne. If I had read this post earlier I could have taken the part home and taken pictures of it. I'll go in on Monday to see if the fork is still there.
