    Default 180 break down

My 180 wouldnt start today, it was already warmed up and couldnt get it started after a short break.

Got it going after 8 goes and a warning came up about the polution control. nipped it straight round to Peugeot, they tried to reset the computer but had problems accessing the engine on thier computer.

They pushed blame onto the fact we only have 95ron premium ulp in tassie and have asked me to return it on monday.

Has anyone got any advice or comments on the legitemacy of the claims or has anyone had this happen to them?

    Crap it's the 95

Some dealers must think owners are complete idiots. The times I've had that (a few early on) ALL where computer ECU problems .. fixed with a few replacements and a reprogram or 2.

    dpcgti180,

As XTC says, point to the bit in the manual that says 95RON minimum and tell them to pull their heads back in.

Mine runs exclusively on 95 and has never had a pollution fault. Most people I know with 180s that have had pollution faults use Optimax exclusively.

Sadly, I think you will need to ask them politely to try harder. It certainly looks like an ECU-related problem from their attempts anyway.
    Regards,

    Simon

I got a similar story when I had the Antipollution fault issues with the Xsara, except it was other way around. They claimed that they had problems with BP (I was using Ultimate, the only 98 RON fuel we can get) and that I should use Shell (only 95) instead. I guess it is easy to use the fuel excuse when you don't really know what the problem is.

They are blaming the fact that you can only get 95 RON in Tassie then perhaps you should turn it back on them as they sold the car with that knowledge. If in their opinion you cannot get adequate fuel for the car they should not be sellilng a product that is inappropriate for the conditions.

I am taking the car in on Monday,
    questions will be asked,
I have some other problems too that still need to be sorted by them.
The seat uphosltery still needs to be fixed
I cant seem to operate the deadlocking
Two tyres have slow air leaks

I have no doubt the problem is NOT the feul quality, i guess it is thier way to pass the buck .

When i had an 8 year old 306 the upholstery was still perfect but to have a brand new 206 and 407 both with upholstery issues is pretty annoying.

My wife hasnt had any action on her 407, apprt from the upholstery we have a problem with that not being able to turn off the ESP, the 407 is more complicated with the computer in the consol but i do not recall seing a controll for disabling that ESP switch. She also has an occasional single TOCK sound on acceleratrion, it sometimes is when the clutch is in, sometimes when it is just fully disgauging and sometimes when it is fully disengauged.

Ahh, the hassle free driving with new cars. Thank god for warantees

    G'day,
I agree, for what it is worth. There is a law, somewhere in the dim reaches of my brain, about selling items that are unsuitable for their stated purpose.
e.g. glue that doesn't stick.Cars that don't run on the available fuel, etc.

I would bet money that the problem is not fuel related.

Not much help I know, but,

    regards,
    Les W.

Do you have an update for us, dpcgti180? Did they find anything meaningful to explain the pollution fault, etc?

Mech saved a list of fault codes and sent it off to Peugeot.
He warned that he has heard of mechanics restoring defaults before saving fault codes , thus deleting the fault codes and in some cases the fault continues but does not re issue the codes. Something to keep in mind if it is mentioned that your ecu is going to be reset to perhaps fix a problem.

The mech then reset the ecu and i have not had any issues with it since.
He did suggest that once the codes were analysed by peugeot it may need further work and or a new ecu.

At the same time he checked on of my tyres which had a slow leak, turned out to be a pinhole through the alloy rim on the weld line. The freighted a new rim in overnight.
They have also ordered ne upholstery for the wear on my drivers seat.

I asked him to explain or enable the dead locking which he was unable to do. he tried changing some settings to enable it but it didnt work properly. So at this stage i cant get it to function, as well as the security lighting of the headlights staying on till the car is locked.

Does anyone else have issues with the deadlocking and security lighting.

My door is dark at night and the lights staying on would be great, it is meant to be a function so in all fairness it should work.

As for the deadlocking , how else can i ensure the kids cant get out of the car while im in the casino for hours on end!

    Thanks for that

It sounds like your service mob are not too bad after all.

I don't use my security lighting feature at all (though I do use the auto lights).

In mine if I turn the car off (hence the auto lights go off) and I then flick the stalk towards me (to the high beam flash position) the lights then stay on. I can then get out and lock the car, the lights staying on for 30 sec or so. Does this not happen or is your manual describing it differently?

As for deadlocking, I think that is a feature that turned up after I took delivery of mine - along with the split hazard switch with central locking button.

I noticed the manual in my car explains the deadlocking, but it does not work on my car. This is a car with single big hazard switch (2004 build). The instructions make no mention of a the split hazard/central locking switch.

The manual in my Xsara VTS also described the operation of the deadlocking. Again it did not work on the car. It's seems they disabled the functionality on Australian cars, but I do not know why.

    G'day,
perhaps to do with the fact that being locked in a car, [ in summer ] , could be dangerous.

For example, how would you like to be locked inside a car with no way out ?
    Sounds scary, yeah ?

    regards,
    Les W.

You can do that in a Golf Mk5 ... lock the doors with the fob on the outside of the car and no-one inside can get out !!!
