Default Quick Question - What is it? (Pug 205)

    Hi Guys,
on a S1 205 GTI, under the front passenger's guard there is this "canister" like thing, with 2 small hoses connecting to the top of it.

Now, the thing is... one of the hoses has been dodgily spliced into another and as such does jack all! The hose comes up to a connector on a fat right-angled hose somewhere around the throttle body (if that's what it is called.).

I just need to know what this does, lol. Surely it has to be important if it is actually on the car!

Also, the vacuum advanced unit, is that the thing that is kind of like a circular disc on the side of the distributor? If so, that doesn't have any hoses coming off of it either.

Look forward to a quick response! Cheers

    Ah, I've identified them.
One is a charcoal filter and the other is the vacuum advanced... now, the vac adv isn't connected - I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow. Doh!

The hose for the vacuum advance unit should run from under the throttlebody

Excellent - I've just fitted a hose, so we'll see how the economy goes.

I had a bit of a suck on it (That sounds good..) and it had a fair bit of resistance, so it should be ok. The economy looks to be a bit better than usual, we'll find out after a few more trips.

    Cool

i know that on my pug a hose goes from the distributor vacuum unit to the throttle body (underneath) then from the throttle body to (i'd really like to know tho)
the pic might help with the cannister, i too was wondering what it was for a while.
