    Default Fuego power steering

Anyone had issues with power steering on a Fuego? Mine appears to be leaking from the seal for the steering arm on the right hand side. Can they be repaired? Can this be done in situ or does the whole rack have to come out which is a painful job?

Barry, yes they were able to be repaired quite successfully in the factory refurbishment program, however outside those programs the results in the trade that try to repair, have a very mixed success rate.

I have long wanted to get hold of the part repair kits and attempt a long lasting repair, but to date I have not been able to source components and the actual information (techniques of repair) that guarantee a lasting fix.

I will have a look and see what source data I have for kits ( there were some available in the UK at one time) there was a previous thread years back on the subject, and at that time I was willing to pay out money, even if the job failed. Just was one step behind getting or sourcing the kits, my information may be filed on a crashed computer.

Others here might have original information filed. I had the idea that Jo Proffi might have tried to get someone local to do the job. much water under the bridge since then.

    Regards

Thanks Ken. The Haynes manual is no use at all. So any info out there will be helpful. Might go to Pedders at some stage or other steering specialists and see what they say.

If you have an MR 218 Manual (I think that might be the American R1360 -R1362 models) Section G10 shows the set up of the seals.
    1 - piston
    2-Rack bush
    3-seal carrier
    4-snap ring
    5-O ring seal
    6-Lip type seal
    7- Inside lip type seal
    8-square section piston ring.

I vaguely remember the problem was keeping snap ring and the seal carrier sort of glued in place so it didn't release the internal lip seal and rack bush under the internal pressure.

I could probably scan you a PDF and send it, I have your email address I have sent a copy of the page.

Hmmn sent off the email with PDF of page, was going to try and copy the page to this thread, but site seems to have lost ability to introduce a PDF file for some reason.

It so happened I have the club's MR218 manual and read thru the section on power steering. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you how to renew the seals which I think is the problem. Will be having a chat to a Renault mechanic now retired.
