Default 205 GTi (1993 build) Power steering rack bush

Can anyone confirm that there is a bush in the passenger side end of the power steer rack?

No bush shows up on parts list drawings that I have found on line.

I know there is one in the non-power steer rack, I have seen photos.

    Thanks

No, only in the non PAS racks, this goes right back to the 505s as well.

    Thanks Graham.

Mine has a lot of play and I think it is in the housing passenger end. The road wheel moves a couple of mms in the 9 to 3 o'clock direction. The boot has been torn for a while and the car steers a bit (very) queer on bumps and has began to pull right under acceleration. I guess I need a new rack. I think most of the later ones will fit with my tie rod ends connected (?).

Have you checked that the rack is actually tight on the crossmember?

I have a rack in the shed if you want to look at it before removal to see how things work

    Adrian,

Will not have to take you up on that.

I spent a bit of time today (No rain) with some wedges, jacks, chocks and a dial indicator.

The rack had a bit of play only.

The play is coming from a stuffed bottom balljoint! Apparently they only last 20 years or 280k km.

    Thanks

P.S. My rack is 3 turns lock to lock. I don't think I will be swapping to an Si one to save 0.25 of a turn. I don't have enough skin left on my hands and wrists.
