    Default Removing/refitting fresh timing belts

Anyone got any good reason for not reusing timing belts that are only a couple of thousand kms old? Have seen some stuff written that they should always be replaced if removed for any reason, but not sure why.

Second new water pump in a month had failed - this time I'll retract what I said about aftermarket parts (at least for F4R renault water pumps and get a genuine one...).

The French and Italian brands didn't cut it, let's see if the OE Japanese pump fares better

There is that. Although I jut don't like wasting stuff that's fine, and it literally has 2000 kms on it.

And with all teh cost of coolant and whatnot, this is turning into a very expensive belt/pump job.

Hope the leak settles down tomorrow, otherwise it's going back to Canberra next week from here in Melbourne on a truck.

    I'd re-use it.

    Haakon,

As you said it's the pulleys that fail and not the belts.
    No coolant on it? Oil?
If not, then if it were me, I'd bung it back on.
2k isn't enough for them to wear in.
