Default 205 GTI loss of power then cuts out.

    Hello All
my 87 GTI with the S3 engine & Motronic transplant has been running for 1500 kms, starts easily and idles smoothly, it has some serious sputtering at low revs under load and will sometimes will cut out but restart easily.
Today a big power loss in low revs and no restarting for about 30 minutes, did this 3 times and I walked home 3kms, went back later started up, died after 2kms, started again and limped home slowly.
1 hour later it has spark and fuel to rail. I should have checked this when the engine died.
It has a full tank of petrol, Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks Doug

Check any sensors with air vaccuum rubber tubes...... for perishing..... allowing ingress of air. Screws the mixture. In my case on a 306 problem was map sensor and caused the thing to run way too rich.

Been wet in Melbourne? Check that O2 sensor cable connector is dry (and clean). Just a thought.

Fuel starvation? Assuming you have an in-tank pump, check the strainer on the bottom of the pump (as well as replacing the fuel filter ).

    Cheers

Tommorrows purchases : from EAI, coil & fuel filter. I have a spare oxygen sensor and I imagine its a pull out the rear seat to acces the fuel pump strainer, also where is the Ignition module?
    Thanks Doug
