The mechanic says I should buy a lottery ticket as the head has passed a leak down test @ 80PSI on all cylinders. Within tolerance for a 100k engine and its probably closer to 200k these days.
Apparently I lost three teeth on the belt and four would have been catastrophic.
He also noted that the 2-piece harmonic balancer has spun quite a bit and was probably timed up last in that condition due to several paint marks on the front of the engine.
I mentioned that the valves are soft and are still capable of sealing when bent and snapping off due to fatigue down the track. He thinks that might pass a compression test but not a leak down test so here's hoping.
Looks like the head can stay on and the cash can stay in my pocket at this stage!
