    Default New Year Present

Found out why my insurance premiums have gone up for my Clio.
Plenty of brand new write offs for sale

Thanks a lot for a great New Year present

These hits show how strong the passenger cell is. Doesn't even break the windscreen.
    Can't have everything I suppose

Mine actually stayed fairly similar to last year, a CPIish increase perhaps, but I was fairly happy.

And on that third pic you posted, it didn't even break the washer bottle. Ooops! On a second look you can see the neck has snapped off, back to the drawing board on that one! :-)

I seem to remember a Subaru wrecker in Mordialloc having scores of early model WRX's all with side damage. You know, trees, posts, other immovable objects from the side of the road........
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone............

I just change insurance companies now. One year, mine went up nearly $250 with AAMI and that was for a Laguna diesel wagon! And I've never made a claim in the whole 20 years that I've had my full drivers licence!

I've now with SGIC and have all three cars with them and the house!

An insurance company is only as good as its claims department. I'm not too stressed about the premium although I do compare. This is why my five cars and house are no longer with Shannons.

Shannon's are part of Suncorp, whose companies are legendary for being difficult about claims. Not especially cheap for your daily driver/modern.

On the other hand, I have had a couple of claims with them for the 240Z and have found them excellent - as you note, you only find out whether your company's any good when you make a claim.

    Assessment of damage was quick
    I chose the repairer ( 240 z specialist )
No arguments about any substantial bits of the repair
They allowed an almost total respray on grounds that colour could otherwise not be exactly matched
They didn't give the repairer any grief at all and paid him on time and generously
It was not a small claim

This contrasts markedly with family experience of insurers such as RACV and AAMI, who have been grasping, hard to deal with, unfair to the repairer and who have strategically written off son's car in ways that allowed them to profit from the (not very )wreck.

Rob's comment was that Shannon's were always good to deal with from his point of view.

We do need to give thought to things like this in an increasingly corporatised world - as old car nuts we are often dependent upon small volume specialists and so far as I am concerned any company that treats the trade well gets my business.

In no way sure that this is the experience of all, but I felt it worth noting in this forum.

    Best Wishes

I had two Shannon claims in one week late last year. Excellent service from the claims department has always been my experience.

I had a small scrape on my Latitude and Shannons were excellent. One phone call to Shannons, chose my local panel beater, and didn't even have to sign anything. Just took the car on due date and picked up next day. I had photos showing it was not my fault but they didn't need them unless the other party didn't admit fault. They rang after to ask was I happy with the job. Great service and they provide our club with a free meeting room. The price for my house was competitive. Plus I get $10,000 cover for memorabilia, tools, and parts.

    It pays to shop around.
Last year I was with Woolworths, this year I've jumped shit to Budget Direct.
Had to get a cover note for the 182 Cup and I had AAMI also quote me for the 182, it was about $860 where as my 182 with Budget Direct was about $360, for full comp.

I've only had 1 claim about 10 years ago when I hit a roo with the 12G. Shannons assessor had no idea what this highly polished immaculate 1971 Renault 12 was but just saw the agreed value figure and said fix it, what ever it takes just fix it.

Now I have all my cars and both houses with them but thankfully no claims since.

I had the the complete opposite with Shannons to the point that the Insurance Ombudsman had to get involved
Noted that I do appreciate they support grass roots clubs etc.
I'm sure they are fine in 99% of the time but unfortunately I copped the 1% and they burnt me for life.
    Cheers

Ps RACV now do my classic car at a higher agreed value, cheaper policy cost and they GIVE me FREE roadside assistance. No comparison on any level in my case

I was a third party against a driver who was insured with AAPIA, it took 3 months to get it sorted, and that was with me doing half their work and spending several hours (literally) on the phone. The assessor was really good, everything else was a battle. Never would insure with them.
