    Default Cabriolet runouts

We came within an inch of buying a new megane cabriolet this week, but a low trade in and pauper status prevented us in the end. I thought others might be interested in the details.

Renault are apparently clearing the last remaining stocks of megane cabs. The GT Line was $47990 driveaway until recently (they were up over $50k drive away at one stage). The deal we got offered on a pearl white GT Line was $33490 driveaway (NSW rego). A $20k saving on their highest previous driveaway price I believe.

This was 2015 build, 2016 complianced vehicle with delivery kms only. A new car but sold as used with the balance of the 5yr unlimited kilometre warranty etc. Renault have apparently sold them as a job lot to an auctioneer a few months ago, who are selling them to dealers on demand via Renault. Mostly white, with a couple of blues so not a huge choice in colour but we wanted a white one anyhow. The warranty was activated during that sale "several months ago" according to the sales guy I spoke to (Matt at Penrith Renault - nice bloke and recommended based on my experience despite not completed the deal).

Assuming they don't sell, they may get even cheaper.

The kicker was being offered $2000 trade in on my wife's Scenic 2 Dynamique (2007, first reg 2009) with 70000 kms on the still functioning dash. Often described by our renotech mechanic as the best he has seen and worked on in Sydney.

Looks like I'll still trawl gumtree for an old Peugeot 306 cab instead!

    My Floride is for sale..
Every day when I wake up I reach up in the darkness with my eyes shut and if I cannot feel anything that resembles a wooden lid I know it will be a good day. No lid today.

The Floride was a special edition a few years back. I don't think they have any new stock of those left, just GT Lines and possibly Dynamiques (although I didn't ask).

I did seriously consider that when it first appeared David.
I was after an auto - I think yours is manual?

Also the $ involved in bringing it to Sydney, getting it roadworthy and registered means that it's worth the $2k offered to me as a trade-in to make it worthwhile.

The attraction was it is a matching pair to my wife's Quartz Scenic 2.

I wouldn't of thought they'd have any new stock left either as they were built between 1959 to 1963.

Hard to know which would be worse. Retained value on the already half depreciated Renault, or the potential running costs of a 25ish year old 306 Cabrio auto :-)

I’d guess they will still be there next year, especially as they don’t seem to be flying out of the door.

The difference Simon is that the Megane would be Roz's daily driver, whereas the Pug would be a weekend toy we could share rather than being reliant on it for transport. Roz only drives autos, hence my dilemma

It's looking more likely that we go a Hyundai i30 hatch for her; and maybe a weekend toy for me (I mean, us) later on.

I have been half-heartedly looking on ebay and gumtree for some time.
I seem to be after a late 98-2000 with the 2.0L engine and T Bar auto (ZF gearbox), rather than the 2000 on with the later (AL4? gearbox). Other than that it's about price and defects. I'm only interested in a sub $2k car, so many on the market aren't for me.

Most of the ones that seem to interest me seem to be interstate and non-runners!

Interesting that you say that the 98-2000 models have the ZF transmission. The 2000 model we had (until the engine got cooked ) definitely had the AL4 transmission in it.

Anyway, our current one is a 2002 model, and has just had the heating/cooling system completely overhauled.

    It won't be sub $2000!

I'm baseing it on what I see in the pics on said ebay and gumtree only. The first thing I look for is a T Bar versus the twisted spaghetti auto shift that you may have. No, not interested in an AL4 at all - been there, done that.

Meh, they are just cars, one need not have any emotional attachments to old Renaults, nothing to see here...

BTW, see you at Griffith in a Reno.

No, you won't see me at Griffith. I've spent enough time there for work over the last 16 yrs.
I normally skip one or two musters, only going to them every 2nd or 3rd one. Bathurst was a bonus late minute decision.

I was talking to Nomes about advertising it now as I don't think it will sell quickly especially at this time of the year.

    I didn't think Roz wanted a Koleos?

Was thinking of putting it on for 15-16 it's such a good car with heaps of new car warranty left.

Roz needs to have a think about what she wants and drive a few of the choices to decide. She likes the raised seating and space of her current car, but a Hyundai or corolla hatch are still also contenders.
