    BA7-5 primary gear wear.

A friend has a BA7-5 that used to live on the back of an alloy engine and it has worn through the case hardening of the primary gears.

That is the input shaft gear and its mating gear on the layshaft.

    Anyone else struck this problem?

Seems a natural... these boxes are using gears that barely get used in a 4-speed, but in the 5-speed they are more or less always engaged and carrying torque.

Gear Repair Company are going to fix this problem on the layshaft I have here of Norm's. They will cut the shaft behind the primary gear and weld on the front gear and shaft section from a 404/504 box.

It's a job they do all the time, apparently, and they quote about $150 for the fix.

    They are at 80-82 Rosedale Ave, Greenacre 2190. Ph. 02 9707 1973

Why, with all the problems I've had lately, passing through Sydney in daylight hours seems an impossible dream... but I will get there soon.

The company do this job frequently, so I don't imagine it will be a problem at all.
