World Car Museums

Thanks for that link, many great museums - I think I've only been to 3 of them. Good photos, worth looking at all of them.

Fabulous collections of amazing cars. Thank you. What about Jay Leno's Garage to complete the parade?

I imagine that there must be millions of old cars in various stages of repair and restoration all over the world,
mostly in the hands of private collectors and enthusiasts. Just like the venerable members of this forum.

My brother has several, mainly Buicks, his speciality. He also has the only surviving example of a Lafayette convertible,
part of the Nash stable I believe. I helped him rescue it from a farm in the middle of Africa some years ago.

As a matter of interest, has anybody an idea of how many makes and models of cars there are. For instance, I read somewhere
that there were over 100 manufacturers in the USA alone, at one stage. What motivates anybody to want to manufacture cars?

In 1924 there were 108 makes of car selling on the Victorian market.
The Complete Encyclopedia of Motorcars published 1968 had over 4000 makes entered.
