We are all getting bored................

why bother with all these new cars. it is much easier with the good old Peugeots.
that will the answer for the older cars in the future when there is no petrol any more

In drag racing they used to have funny cars, a normal sedan body put on a different chassis and engine. That's what a rear drive Peugeot fitted with a different engine is. A mockery of the original design. There have always been people who have changed the engines on Peugeots. None of the cars survive much beyond the original owner. There are replica cars like the MGTD and even a plastic 402DS. They lack any character of the original and are commercial failures. People like modifying old cars and the 203 suffered more than most. Just don't do it to a nice original early example that's worth preserving.

Really? I love a 504, 505 etc but their engines has never been a highlight for me! If I ever was in the position to build my ideal 505 it'd be an original rust and damage free body, original suspension and nice modern low pressure turbo engine! And an electric DS, yes please!

Go for it. Some people have always modified cars to taste although nowadays getting an engineers certificate to have them registered is difficult. All matter of engine swaps have been tried, sometimes by importers. Diesel cars are converted to petrol and petrol to diesel and even rotary. Great engineering effort is expended to make engines fit machines they were not designed for. But they are to personal taste and quickly end up in a wreckers yard after the modifier tires of them.
