Looking for either a 2nd hand or new down draft Weber to suit a Peugeot 504. Preferably one that has come off a 504 and not an Escort or Fuego conversion.

Pretty desperate and will get one from anywhere!!

I'm not sure what you mean by one that has come off a 504. Most of the ones on 504s (32/36 DGV or DGAV) are the same as the ones fitted to 2 litre Escorts or Cortinas. They are about $400 new or $60 second hand. They are bigger than the Renault ones and capable of more performance. The V6 Capri ones are bigger still (38 DGAS), but hard to find and expensive new (over $600).

Falcon webers can also be used, but they have some bizarre attachments.

Holley 350 or 500 2 barrel downdraught carbs can also be used with an adapter plate, but the carbs internall orifices by plugging and drilling to stop it running too rich. The fuel bowls can also leak all over your distributor, which isn't very safe. A decent size aircleaner won't fit under the bonnet without a bonnet scoop either.

The Weber 32/36 DGV/DGAV or 38 DGAS are the simplest and best carburettors if you plan on keeping the standard inlet manifold.

Regards,
Dave

My belief is that the Rover 2000 carbie will be easily adapted (just make a 90 degree adaptor), will give comparable performance without any running troubles whatever (oh to live in an SU world again!) and need no alteration.

It will definitely improve fuel consumption, too, and not get in the way of any air cond or other junk. If I wasn't going through the pain of this fuel injection installation I would be doing it.
