This got me thinking of the visibility from todays F1 cars. The seating position in F1 cars is problematic from the point of view of visibility.
The below photo shows how low the drivers sit. If you look at the eye line from the helmet and across the top of the front of the cockpit, there is no way the drivers car see the front of the car, I think the best they can do is to see the tops of the front wheels.
