Hello All,
Our 2015 Peugeot 308, 121,000km, has started displaying the Urea and Service Lights, as well as the warning: "Starting prevented in 1100km". Prior to this occurring we had topped up 9 litres of Ad Blue at the 120,000km service.
It is very erratic, and will display after driving 10kms, then after stopping and starting several times in town, and then it will not happen for another 100kms or more. The initial "Starting Prevented" warning first happened about 500kms ago, but today's code still says will not start after 1100km, whereas it should have gone down to 600km.
Peugeot Dealer has "put it on the computer" and said he cleared the error codes, cost of $110.00 Driving away from dealer it all started to happen again after 5kms.
Dealer then says it has to be in their workshop, for a day, on the computer, to diagnose the problem.
Is this for real or can we ignore the warnings and put up with it??
Any ideas greatly appreciated, thanks.

The t9s had problems with these adblue tanks the process is to try the update directly to the tank ie not via eobd then if the fault still occurs you need to replace the tank there is an extension of warranty coverage on this part I think it was five or six years. So first I would be asking do they have the update box (not diagbox) to update it and if not try another dealer peugeot because if they don’t know the basics you shouldn’t pay for their learning experience. And no you cannot ignore it it will not start when that counter hits 0. what dealer?

Thanks for that info. We go through the dealer in Tamworth, NSW.

It's not at all amusing. European parts sites have them listed for hundreds of Euros, and still expensive from wreckers.

Something is very wrong when this happens. Good cars can be scrapped too early.

So if the computer goes HAL it can set the clock running as to when the car is shut down? As there are only two Peugeot dealers for the vast mass of the Australian continent beyond the east coast this could make for an interesting trip to areas beyond the tram tracks.

No it will stop it from starting. But 1600ks is normally enough to get some adblue into it. Failures happen and peugeot and Citroen have done plenty to get the adblues that fail fixed well out of warranty.

Unless you're in the north. Knew a bloke who was a station mechanic in the Kimberley. Over 3000 k's to Perth. Used to tow the abandoned cars back from Highway One. Collected a nice R12. He'd get them running again and use them around the station. He's passed now so I don't know how he'd cope with modern stuff but as a proper bush mechanic I'm sure he'd have a go.

And whatever you do don't contact peugeot assist, bunch of the most useless twits outside of australia post

Mine errored on my trip back from a service and the countdown started, I was informed that the countdown can be random but in my case it was on a regular countdown
No adding of adblue fixed the problem
A new tank was ordered in due to being nearly 400km's from the nearest dealer
Another trip to the dealer to replace the tank
The dealer went through the whole thing and in this case found a faulty sensor
They had the car nearly all day making sure that it wasn't going to error again while they had it and touch wood it hasn't errored since but I keep a tentative eye on it just in case
At least it's in the system so if it does error down the track it will be covered

Thanks for all your replies; it's back to the dealer this Thursday for the day for analysis on the computer. Hope its just a sensor error. Will keep you posted.

Dealer says its a sensor/tank problem needing replacement parts. Peugeot will cover 50% of the parts cost leaving us to pay $2172 out of the $4049 total. Have not committed to it yet. "Failure to start" warning hasn't come up for the last 180 kms and the urea fault disappeared, then came up after 120kms then disappeared 30kms later, and only the engine diagnosis light is currently showing. All very erratic as ad blue tank is full. Will decide on repairs after a trip we are about to make and monitor warnings.

I have extensive dealer experience I would advise you to refuse that repair and contact peugeot Australia and refer to the Australian consumer law and the guarantee of reasonable durability. You should not be paying a cent.

Hi we have just had the same issue with our 2015 308. Peugeot are willing to contribute only 25% so i have now contacted the ACCC. I've found a lot of info online that it is a design fault and overseas the part has an extended warranty to 5 years/90,000miles. I'm not sure how you resolved it but would be keen to know as i believe that they should pay for the part due to it being a design fault and the car being unfit for purpose without this working

Had same problem and cost was fully covered by Peugeot but before Inchape took over Australian distribution. Had read others who had had warranty problems with VW and VW would only settle on the steps of the Tribunal just before the hearing.

I would also get a quote from a Peugeot specialist if going legal is too hard. For my 405 a specialist said I had to replace the alternator and offered a Valeo one for $500 or a Peugeot one for $1000. Turns out the only difference was the box the identical part came in.

By coincidence, my 2015 308 started doing this yesterday between Yarrawonga and Bairnsdale. I have just got it home today, and unfortunately the dash says I have 300k before it stops starting.
I checked it with a code reader and tried clearing the code to restart the count down, but no success.

Being that it is a long weekend and all the dealers are closed, I am wondering if there is a way to still start the car after this number hits zero?
