Hi guys,
does anyone have a sports steering wheel in their Fuego that they could recommend- I am looking for something other than the Fuego/18 turbo steering wheel option. Are there boss kits easily available for them for momo etc out there?

Cheers Ben
ps. Renaultturbo- what rims and steering wheel do you have on yours?Do you have any problems with wheels rubbing etc etc I have bought a fuego and want to put some decent rims and steering wheel on and figure I'll find out what other people have tried out first- it's to be used as a race car.... :D

Renault 17 I asked the same ages ago but Ive looked about and there seems to be nothing available 8_ball

Come on Daniel get off your bum and look...if I could find a locally sourced dashmat for your 19 on the second search I did on google..then you are big enough to do the same on the steering wheel....if you bother to search properly I'm sure you will find it. Alternatively drive the jackymobile down the road and start checking the boss kits in the steering wheel catalogues

Momo definately make a boss to suit a Fuego as I had one years ago, and on the wheel front 15 X 7 wheels with 205/50 tyres will fit under easily with the right offset, but don't ask me the figure as it was 6 years or more ago.

Thanks guys,
the reason I was posting it on here- was that in past I have been into shops here and as soon as you mention renault or european car they go- Ohhh, well, that will be expensive....

It's a fairly small city I live in, therefore I can't just- go somewhere else that easily.

I want to do any mods to this car as cheaply as possible- hence I won't be sending overseas for any bits that it needs.

Besides someone on this forum may be running 16" wheels or a steering wheel that they now fits - from a jap wreck etc with the right offset . I am not naturally lazy, just figured that there is ' no point re-inventing the wheel'- that's all.

I have the standard 14" mags to put on it- which with good tyres will make a difference- and will be tolerable, but the steering wheel is hideous, so just has to go. I'll try some steering wheel crowds and see how I get on.

Cheers Ben

Steering wheels are one of the easiest things to do, my 17 has a momo wheel and there easy to find, any sports shop that stocks wheels can help you, the boss is the same spline as Ford Escort, just choose the wheel you like and ask them to order the boss, takes about a week.
Cars with air bags are a problem but anything earlier than series 1 R19 is easy.

Yeah i have a MOMO 'immitation' steering wheel on my Fuego but needed no Boss kit as i removed the centre piece and drilled new holes at a bigger diameter on the wheel to suit the standard set up on the Fuego. Its hardly legal, i think it barely stretches the 30cm of diameter that the law demands.

What im having trouble with is finding a Renault horn button/badge to put on the wheel. I have taken off (and thrown away!) the original MOMO button it had and now have nothing to put on it. Autobarn had it on catalogue for $24.95 but when i put the order through, i got the dreaded call that it was on the catalogue but not available.

And as ive said before, ive got 16x7's on my Fuego with 205/45 rubber on it (38 offset). It hardly rubs at all as the suspension is rock hard at the front (lowered 1.5 inch)and no chance at the back as the smaller track the rear has with respect to the front gives you a good clearance between your rubber and the guards.

cheers

By the way, talking about steering wheels, i bought a 3 spoke sports steering wheel at a swap meet years ago. I bought it cos it had MADE IN FRANCE stamped on it and thought it could fit straight on the Fuego (which it couldnt). I managed to find what brand it was but i cant remember it.

I might fish it out of the garage and sell it cheap at the FCD in melbourne (if it happens).

At the Bastille Day display in Brisbane, there was a guy in a white Renault R5 selling sports steering wheels as well as a lot of other bits and pieces.
Don’t know who he is or what the wheels fit but they had the Renault logo in the centre so they might be for a Fuego.
I guess he’s not a Fellow Frogger or he would have said something by now. Perhaps some of other Brisbane guys may know him. I don’t think he’s a member of the RCCQ.

cheers!

OK David....the SAAS on line catalog lists about 4 different escort boss kits for various year models.... question

which one is the right one for us deprived frog lovers?
cheers!

I dunno, all I know is my brother in law had a 17 years ago and swaped the wheel to his MK2 escort, he started doing up escorts and floging them (all MK2's)and was using fuego wheels to make then look better.
Our mechanic at work drives a 17TS and last year bought a sports wheel for it and said to me that the boss was easy because it's the same as escort.

Hey Fellas

I can get Boss Kits at work. Although for some funny reason the R17 Boss kit is fairly expensive, I think it was about $105 although if I take off my Staff Discount 20% might work out alright. Saas has them in stock to. Proberley been sitting on there shelfs for Years I'd say.
