Hi,

I am looking to fit oil and temp gauge to my Sierra build - they are universal gauges what looks to be a 10mm (9.8 to be exact) diameter, unknown thread on the sender. Can anyone help with what the standard thread is for the senders on the Sierra block and where I might find suitable adapters?

Cheers.

Generally autobarn are good for that stuff. Take in the original sender or the blanking plug that was in it and they should be able to help. Don’t know what the Sierra motor has though.

When I did this many years ago I made up my own adaptor. Most gauges are imperial and the threads in the Sierra block are metric.

The Temperature sender is a M12 (x 1.5 I think)..
No sure about the oil pressure switch but think it's a M10.

If that is aftermarket gauges the water temp sensor is 1/8th" BSPT thread. You will have to drill and tap the back plate to suit. If you have a Gordini waterpump housing, then you can use the Renault sensor and gauge.

Is that an oil temp gauge or oil press gauge? If temp gauge you will have to drill the sump and weld a bung in there. Get a bung from PitStop, They use it for the O2 sensors and then you can get a reducer to suit the oil temp sensor which is 1/8" BSPT as well.

If it is oil press you can get a reducer which is, I think 1/4" BSPT and reduce that to 1/8th BSPT to fit the sensor.

I think I'm right but there should be others on here to comment.

Regards, Frans.

Hi George,

I’ve had this in the shed for ages and can’t see me ever using it. Supposedly it was adapter Norm @ Caravelle had made a long time ago for adding an extra gauge to a Sierra motor. I assume an oil temp gauge in addition to oil pressure.

Let me know if of any use to you.

yes, yes and yes - it looks like an adapter to add an oil pressure gauge while keeping the oil pressure switch in operation. The thread on the upper surface looks about the size of my oil pressure sender, and the end thread looks to repeat the standard Sierra thread.

Well I can now answer my own question. The water temperature sender is a bog standard M18 x 1.25 (its even stamped on the sender), and most standard temperature gauge sensors are 1/8" NPT. I got my adapter here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/163689060277
The pitch on the adaptor that you linked is 1.5 mm, you said in your post above that it is 1.25 mm so the Ebay one you linked will not screw in.

Also you will have to use some kind of thread sealant so that it does not leak, as I think the standard sender seals on a flange and not the thread.

To satisfy my curiosity I went and checked my Renault temperature senders that I have in the shed and they are all M18 x 1.5 so that adaptor will work OK but will need thread sealant. A flanged version would of been better as that is what the original sender type is.

While I was there I checked the oil pressure sender and these are M14 x 1.5, again a flange type

My bad - yep its M18 x 1.5. Copper washer?

The sender adaptors I've bought came with a bonded seal washer (guess these have a few different names).

What is the oil pressure sender unit thread into the engine block of an 807 - 11 engine, please?
Don't have much room between engine & Light 15's frame rail so may have to get a good 90* male female fitting.

Sender unit suggested to KUS digital gauge is:
KUS ~ P/N SAW-40025 Measuring Range 0-10bar Alarm 0.8±0.2bar Thread 1/8" NPT Volts 6V/24V Output Signal 10-184 Ohm
I'm pretty sure the current sender is not properly matched to the new KUS digital gauge.

Pressures seem to be reading far too low on a relatively newly rebuilt engine [before I bought & really, really clean inside top & bottom]
EG. especially @ warm idle, like 0.8 bar & about 2.5 - 3bar @ RPM warm.
About 5bar on cold start up.
What should one expect?

Not having a master gauge I will get a matching sender & keep fingers crossed for now. JG.

That one seems to have an NPT thread and to my knowledge all threads on 807 blocks are metric. Can't tell you what size is the oil sender one but it is surely not NPT.
