Something in the memory waaay back - an R16 prototype?.

Whacky creative ideas spawned the R5 Turbo, Clio V6 etc.
Renault also launched the 750 with a whole stack of them left in the Champs Elysees
for anyone to hop in and have a test drive. Just a start switch, no key.
Lost a few, but sold stacks of them.
Took corporate balls..
Citroen was brave too.
But not any more...

They either have 2 display models or they have sprayed them white afterwards?

If I remember corectly I think Reims Motor Museum has an R16 prototype "Project 900". I should have a photo some where.
They made a little V8 engine for that device too, out of two 4CV blocks. Those concept prototypes are just amazing, especially for their time.
It's a 3-box 16 not a hatchback if I recall from our visit together!

No, V8. A 1.5 litre V8. The prototype had cooling issues if I recall, but that wouldn't have been the engine.
