This appears to be a US site specialising in Alpine and Alpine Turbo R5's. A lot of 1.4 engine upgrade stuff on this apart from other stuff. The US dollar makes it less attractive, but it does give an idea of what can be had out there....Apologies if someone else has already flagged this site. cheers!

I'd have a look at the site if the URL was available?!!

Ps Are the DRS going to be at the Canberra FCD?

Cheers

...oops Kevin http://www.r-sport.net/ It is worth a close look.

I'm not sure about the FCD...James will be there somewhere. I could be in the mountains, but hopefully domestic considerations will work in favour of FCD.

cheers!

G'day,

Was there much difference between a 1.4 block and that of a 5 alpine motor.

Other than head, pistons and oil pump, would there be any other parts needed to create a 5 alpine motor using a 1.4 block. after comparing a a 5 alpine piston and liner set with a 1.4 the liners looked the same.
cheers any help would be great

It looks pretty much strightforward to me. The crossflow head bolts straight on to a standard 1.4 block according to popular belief.

I did meet a guy who was using Alpine pistons and liners in a 1.4 block with a conventional head.

He told me he used two head gaskets to get enough clearance between the head and valves and the pistons. Now I don't know how accurate that is as the fellow was trying to flog his dodgy R8G replica to me at the time. If it is
accurate how reliable that set up would be is beyond me....but it does sound dodggy.

I'm sure someone here has more info.

cheers!

I know of someone who has Alpine pistons and liners in a 1.4 with the normal 1.4 head; in this case fitted to an R10 with twin webers so it sounds like a straightforward proposition.

Dave Collier (of Colliers Automotive in Granville; Sydney) built the engine so perhaps could clarify on requirements if you were seriously contemplating it.

Certainly the car in question has been a model of reliability with no problems I am aware of.

thanks for the info,

just sussing out if it would be worth bringing a small amount of parts back while im overseas at end of the year. ive got a 1.4 motor that needs rebuilding so if i could get away with just bringing a 5 alpine head and manifoldback ( as piston and liner can alrady get here, and i can get a cam ground to right specs) i might aswell turn the 1.4 in to a 5 alpine motor to go in the back of the ten.

Mecaparts is flogging complete 5 Alpine motors suitable for rebuilding. While that might tax the abilities of "la Poste" I reckon that mailing a complete head and pushrods might be economically possible. They could be a cheaper bet than the yank site quoted here...after all he is shipping the things in from Europe in the first place.
Mecaparts could be worth a try. They will reply in English if you give them time....but if you want pushrods etc check out the lingo carefully as the english idiom for these parts (eg: rocker gear) doesn't translate well into French (rampe des culbratuers I think). You can check out the correct Frog techno terms at

hope this helps cheers!
