I have been told by the local parts supply (Adelaide South Aust), that the vacuum module for the dist' is no longer available. I am using a R12 unit as it is same dimensions. Are new units available else where ? I have no performance, splutters at initial throttle, must rev like #*!t to go fast, LRP fuel not helping.

Pierre,

Try Caravelle Imports in Melbourne (Rowern Ct Box Hill, see the Adelaide Yellow Pages under Rennau Discount Parts. Ken has a large range of parts and he may be able to help. There are a number of differences between the various vacuum advance capsules, even though they look the same the actual settings may be different.

There is a serrated adjustment inside the Ducellier distributor thay can be turned to alter the amount of vacuum advance, this has to be set, preferably by a specialist. Oliver and SKinners at Hampstead Road Clearview (see White Pages) may be able to help in this respect, they are experienced in fixing Renaults.

It is unusual that LRP is causing a major problem, actually my 12 seems to run better on the stuff. Try a tank of premium unleaded, that has 98 octane, and given the various adjustments to your distributor may make it perform better.

Hello Simon.
Thank you for your info. At one all French car day, I spoke to a man from Melbourne and he suggested having the dist' "re-graphed" to run without the vacuum advance. This seems to work with competion cars, but I'm not sure that it would be OK in city traffic. I will contact the people on Hampstead Road and see what they say.
Peter.
