In the process of replacing my transmission mount, but there are other issues that bugging me.
1) whining sound especially in the first gear... maybe all gears
2) free play on the gear selector shaft.

is it a straight forward job replacing the bearings for the tranny?

As for the gear selector shaft... is the shaft pressed out, can't see any nut in the inner end.

anyone on board has this oil pump cover, had it damaged while removing the engine. Must be willing to post.

Any advised is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

your c3 gearbox is the most difficult to overhaul, the bearings are readily available but getting the box apart is very trying.
And then you need to look at wear caused by the bad bearings.
I can probably supply you a second hand selector cover with less wear.
The oil pump base I can supply no problem.

I've got a couple of brand new clutch throw out forks for 403 if you are interested.

The cut of the gears ? They were not exactly quiet...BUT AT LEAST YOU KNEW YOU HAD A REAL CAR.!!!

Don't ignore Graham's point here, Peugeotnut. Wear in clutch throw forks etc can produce bizarre noises on a 403, readily attributable to other causes. A common problem on my old ones in the 1960s, 70s & 80s, too!
