Sorry about my lack of no-pug related french car knowledge, but i've heard the word GORDINI quite alot recently. Is this just a model name? by the sound of things it's some sort of perfomance name for Renault's. Again im sorry if this is a really stupid question, im just curious.

PLEASE EXPLAIN

Alan S cheers!

gordini or as others no as le sorcerer was a french guy who modifeid the hell out of renaults then became a maunfacter for renault of modified renaults for renault i think but hey he got 160 hp out of a 12 cool as i think is how the story goes sorta like brock commodores in a way

I think that site Alan S put up pretty well tells the tale.

He was to Renault what Brockie was to Holden, or Cooper to Mini, Karmen to VW, Shelby to Ford, Arbarth to Fiat, the list goes on and on. What I tend to like about Gordini is that he did alot of development work, turning 4 speed boxes into 5, squeezing obcense amounts of horsepower out of tiny little engines whereas alot of others tend to build cars from whatever was on the shelf at the time.

The man was very clever and very successful in his own right and I think it only fitting that the legend live on.

Lest we forget.........Amedee Gordini.

David.

He was into things that looked like this; how would that look parked in the driveway?

Alan S eek! eek!

Of course we do. Then if you can find a recording of the "Grand Prix du Roc" or "Grand Prix of Gibraltar" by Peter Ustinov, you'll find plenty of accurate if amusing references to M. Orgini. It is available on CD now - Pitstop Bookshop in Perth had a copy until we bought it!

A French version of Cooper is another way of explaining it.

"And Herr Altbauer, why does Girling Foss have to blow his nose before the race?"

"Because if he had to carry a handkerchief, he vood haff to haff a pocket on either his left side or his right side, and this vood unbalance the car!"

Geez, I've never heard of it - sounds good! One of those names is obvious, but is that a reference to Alfred Neubauer, Ray?
