I was reading a site with info on the Citroen C6, and it mentioned it sharing stuff with the 407. I hadn't even thought about it, so I've looked for some photos/pics and info, and I've found this so far:

what do you think?

Looks good to me. It also looks like it has the same rear end as the laguna coupe.

i saw another photo/drawing of the rear - it looked quite a bit like a Ferarri 456 or 550 - which is fine by me wink

You've got to admit that it doesn't really look all that different to a lot of other cars though does it?
Effectively I would guess it is a series 2 C-5/series 2 Pug 406. I can't speak for the 406 but opinions about the C-5 come in 2 categories; either that they are the best car Citroen ever made or that they're the worst car they ever made.
What has been the Pug owners reactions to the 406?
The design similarity that we get today was predicted years ago by cross dresser extraordinaire Peter Wherret when he said (in laymans terms) that due to the sdvent of computers in car design, there must come a time when all cars will only be distinguished by the badge; the reason being that if we ask a computer to design a car with low resistance, large internal leg room etc, and as they all use the same basic program, a computer will design the same basic car which will then be modified.  Every now and then that seems to happen - An example being a model Honda that is so close to being a 206 rip off that they even tend to paint them in the silver Peugoet competition colours.
Even the badges are getting so similar that the "H" in some Hondas is almost identical to the one on a Hyundai, so old Peter may have had a good point. Oh by the way, I think he was wearing that pimk floral number at the time. eek! head_ban

Hmmmmm...how does that equate with the Vel Satis - maybe the Renault design team are the only ones that use a Mac :D

Well, personally, I do like them, but I find them a bit boring. From what I've read in English car magazines, they are still good cars, better than the competition in some respects (such as a comfy ride) but they aren't as good as the 405 etc in terms of handling.

I think if there had been a sports variant there would be more support for them. The V6 with a manual transmission would go really well, but its still a luxury car that goes fast rather than a sporty sedan with luxury. I sorta feel like I'm babling here, so I'll finish up :D but I suppose I've only really had experience with RWD Pugs. I do love the 306 and the 405 Mi16, but I think if I had the choice between a 505GTi (a V6 or turbo would be nice!) and a 405, I'd take the 505.

Why do I have a feeling the 407 won't look like that.

Some computer guy's just gone & welded the rear of a 206 5 door for the rear window section, borrowed the final 306's front, merged with 406 headlamps inspired by the 307, borrowed part of the 307s bonnet & the door handles.

Though, hey the 307 has got a bloody huge windscreen, so we'll put that in too. The 307 has got those front quarter lights, so in they go. 206 & 307 have that huge front air intake below the bumper, so that's in.

It doesn't look great, and I don't think it will look like that. Some guys just tried to put all recent Peugeots into a blender, and put a good dollup of 307 in there.

It's things like these, why we need a really good Peugeot website. There isn't one really big, well developed enthusiasts' site on the net.

Still remember seeing pics of the S60 on volvospy.com, and they turned out to be real. After seeing lots of fake Volvo spy pics, you can spot the fakes a mile away.

Cheers,

Justin

i've seen some other artists impressions, and they look similar:

The bottom one looks interesting. Very 607 influenced, and there's hints of Rover 75 in the rear.

As for the top, well it just looks like someone took the top picture and drew it.

The reason why I find it so suss, is that certain components of that picture are virtually identical to the current models. In my experience, that's rarely the case (perhaps they are inspired, but never virtually identical).

When's the 407 due? The 406 is starting to get a little tired, you do feel it when you sit in the drivers seat and look at the instrument binnacle.

Cheers,

Justin

My motor mag says that the 407 is expected late 2003.

Good time to trade up!
