I understand there was a design change on the later engines (maybe 2013 onwards?) to the valve cover which reduced the amount of oil vapour that got into the air intake via the breather.

If this is true, how can I determine if a valve cover which is available for sale is the revised design or the old design? Not having removed mine, I don't know what to look for.

The updated PN is: V7 598 862 80
But the best is what is fitted to the newer engine version (Ep6 FDT) : 98 120 714 80
You could send me your VIN to check.

Hey thanks for your response.

My VIN is: VF34C5FVABS279428, engine number is: 10FJBW1319674

I have been told that in upgrading the valve cover I may also need to replace the intake duct and breather pipe the connects the air filter box to the turbocharger. Does that seem correct?

Thanks again!

Yep

Hi All,
I've been reading this forum since 2004 but haven't needed to post until now.
My wife has a 2013 308 (Engine #VF34C5FVAC5097448) that has all of the symptoms of a PCV failure (wheezing and other noises at low revs and sucking air at the oil filler cap when the engine is turned off).
Quote for repair is almost $1000 (cover $439, pipe $308) from a Pug specialist (non dealer).
I have sourced a part on Ebay (awaiting delivery from Russia), to replace the PVC valve only, for US$40.00. Valve Cover Kit Peugeot 308, 207 (A7) - EP6, MINI - N12
I have searched for information on removing the Peugeot EP6 valve cover but have only been able to find a item on removing a Mini (non-turbo) N12 cover.
Removing the cover seems straight forward, however I am unable to figure out how to remove a cover on the Valve cover (marked "cover" on the attached photo.
Any assistance in removing this cover or other information on removing the valve cover would be much appreciated.
Any experience in replacing the pcv valve only (did it work?) would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Thanks dmccurtayne,
Your info will save me a lot of time, knuckles and stress.
I thought the that the PVC valve was accessible from under the rc going from some "prince engine" sites.
Does the cover behind the spark plugs cover the valve and how do you remove it? Is it clipped or........?

PS having trouble getting my photo below the posting limit :-(

The cover that you showed off covered the valve on the left but with them you can’t refit it all

That kit ex-Russia will be the large diaphragm. If that's all that as failed, you may have a fix, but there is another, smaller diaphragm inside the cover and you can't get at it. If that's failed, buy a new cover. Whether you need the new air pipe depends on what you have and which cover you buy. If you have the early type cover and hose that is a slip on fit at the cover and you change to a cover designed for the clip-on elbow, you have to also replace the air pipe to the type with a little elbow.

Hi X8R, Craig and Doush, Do you know if this part is a direct replacement for the original cover with the slip on hose (Engine #VF34C5FVAC5097448) or if it requires the modified pipe required for the latest incarnation of the cover as well. The price is very attractive compared to the Peugeot OEM price I would be very interested in hearing how it went if you have done it. Cheers

So far, no action taken as I did have it booked in with an independent to get this work done, but things have changed since then.

There is as I type a tow truck is on the way, as frequent power-loss/hesitation issues makes the car unsafe to drive right now.

I suspect I will end up paying serious $$$ to get this sorted at a dealer (since no-one else is answering at this time of year). I probably will be told I need a carbon clean so I am expecting a rather disastrous bill at the end of this.

So, it turns out Peugeot will cover the new valve cover and turbo hose parts for free. Cool! I am still faced with a carbon clean, and based on the photos I have been sent this is needed.

I am still not sure if the difficult starts and hesitation to accelerate occAsionally will be resolved by this, but we'll see I guess.

Hi All,

First, thanks for reading this post.

An update on my wife's 308's PCV problem.

I obtained the cover (part number V7 598 862 80) as pointed to in post #13 (thanks x8r) and had it fitted 10 days ago.

The mechanic that replaced the cover reported that the pipe between the cover and turbo did not fit the cover but he managed to soften it enough to fit it over the cover outlet and clamped it (see photos).

The pcv problem is resolved (at least no more noise).

However when I arrived home the cooling fans ran at full speed for 5 minutes after the key was removed. We discovered next morning that this had discharged the battery (which was suspect anyhow).

After replacing the battery we found that the cooling fans came on as soon as the engine was started (cold engine), ran contiuously and did not shut off for about 5 minutes all at full speed when the key was removed.:disappr:

Performance was unaffected.

No errors were displayed on the dash display on the pug and my generic ELM327 reader with Torque software did not pull up any fault codes.

Disconnecting the battery for a few hours did not reset the fan operation.

Is the ELM 327 able to read the pugs fault codes or do you need the "official" Peugeot software to diagnose and clear faults.

Does any on have an advice/experience on how to resolve the problem or do I "bite the bullet" and go with the latest and greatest Pugeot fix with the engine cover and piping.

Thanks
Ian

Yes you can clear codes but you may have a code in the auto or esp caused by using those tools. Make sure the red plug was pulled out of the back of the rc.

Thanks for the quick reply DMC.
I assume that the red plug you refering to is the one that came with the new cover. It was removed.
I can find no codes using the elm327 so to clarify, specific Peugeot software is needed to check/clear auto or esp?
It's due for a 70k service so I might request the mechanic to see what he can find/suggest unless someone comes up with a resolution in the meantime.
Cheers
