Door rubber trims in Pallas models shrink as shown in the first image.
So I fixed it as shown in the second two images.
  1. I washed and scrubbed all the old dirt and weathered rubber off it
  2. I painted it with a liberal dose of ArmorAll and wrapped it in Gladwrap for 7 days with a 2 kg weight suspended off one end. After 7 days it was very pliable but it had not lengthened
  3. Then I boiled it for about 15 minutes in hot soapy water and stretched it by hand while hot. This was very easy and it lengthened by about 5cm. On cooling it went right back to its original shrunken length - fail
  4. Then I boiled it again for 10 minutes and pulled it even harder while still hot. This time, while still expanded I cooled it rapidly under cold water and this locked in the stretch - pass
  5. See last two images for final length. It now looks great and I will set about the remaining trims in the same manner.
  6. I had to bend the trim tab to release the rubber. I think these may break when bent back but Bunnings have 0.9mm SS hobby panels for new tabs.

Good thinking 99! I have to remember that method of rubber lengthening… most of us would have probably bought new strips!
