One way fuel valves - where best to install?

That would only work well if the upstream electric pump allows fuel to be drawn through it when not energised and it doesn't create a large pressure drop that the mechanical pump would struggle to overcome. You'd have to test that with whatever pump you have. It may not, given an electric diaphragm pump acts rather like a fuel 'accumulator' in the same manner as a mechanical unit. A better strategy might be to fit a concealed electric pump (a DS has several excellent spots for this) and, if you want the look of the mechanical pump, modify it to just be a flow through item there for appearance.
