Hi All,
Is it possible to get just a remote and how does it get programmed?
I know that this has been done to death, but it's been so done that I can't actually find an answer!
I have two keys that work in my Peugeot 307SW (both bayonet not switchblade). I have no remote.
I'm sick of manually opening the door and don't want to pay $252 for a whole new key + remote.
I looked and looked, but it seems to be half nonsense and half diverted into complicated discussions.
It seems like the answer is "no".
Can I buy just a remote (no key), even aftermarket?
Bob

Yes, possibly.

I think you will need Peugeot Planet to allow the car to accept the FOB; you will also need the RFID component of the existing key to add into the FOB.

Without the RFID piece the car won't start.

Sound like you just smile innocently as you hand across your 200 or so dollars. The other description sounds like it's more time, knowledge and frustration even if it's true. I'd just pay up and swallow to save brain fade.

G'day Hal2100 Have just done it $17 for a 2 button fob W/- Transponder from a e bay Sydney seller {key} in post next day .

With a T300 key programmer and the vehicles 4 digit immobilizer code you can code up to 4 key's per vehicle Some Locksmiths
can program as well.
Must have all the key to be programed new and old with vehicle at the timing of programming as the re-programming void's the previous coding or engine will turn over but immobilizer won't allow to start.
My remote window closing is all that is not working yet, Job in progress .
The key blade can be swapped from old fob to new by driving out a 2mm roll pin and refitting .
With out the old fob you would have to get the blank on the new fob cut

This was on my 2006 307 hdi

Hi JPT.
I don't have the old fob. Just the keys. No transponders. Does "W/-" mean with or without?
One of the keys is aftermarket and was cut by a locksmith and has a little plastic insert in the 'handle' which I presume is for the immobiliser.
I didn't know I had remote window closing on my 307, so I won't miss that.

I just bought a new key fob from eBay for $15 after spending an hour trying to get the old one to work. It looks like dmmccurtayne is correct - you can't reprogramme a key fob from one car to another.

G'day Bob I meant the Key fob I bought from E bay came with the transponder
. below is the e bay description
The reprograming found in the hand book only reinitalises the lock / unlock function for the fob
to re answer your original post question The short answer is NO .
But it can be done I have done it on My 2006 v 307 but I needed a key coder & code for the car .
Both of my 307's had the window up function by holding the lock button on the FOB for more than 5 seconds the locks locked , blinkers , blinked and any open window went up .

With respect, why should they 'listen' to you any more than anyone else? They come onto this forum and for all intents and purposes everyone is unknown. You should just mention you're in the profession so they know it's useful info.

Shhhhhhhhocking
I’m not in the business of posting for shits and giggles

Hi JPT,
So, if I understand right, I can buy an uncut key with transponder off eBay, but all I'm really doing is getting a discount off what the auto locksmith would charge for the hardware. They'll still have to do any programming and key cutting?
(me being an ordinary punter with no specialised equipment).

He mentioned a T300 key programmer??

For what i paid last year to get the toyota keys sorted,I'd have been cheaper off buying a T300.

Jo

G'day Bob Yes to all of your last statement .
As you don't have a old FOB to take the key blade off yes the locksmith will have to cut the blank .
Otherwise it is as easy as knocking out a 2 mm roll pin and swapping the key blades over
In reply to Jo Proffi reply about the toyota key my thoughts on the subject was I buy the key fob & a key programmer with $4 change from 200, l still have the tool to scan the cars / live data / clear & read codes + code a key some other day .
Bye for now JPT

Because being in the business means I’m the devil lol

One issue with the eBay keys can be that they can be a different brand than the original product so you need to change the supplier in the bsi if that makes sense and sometimes can result in other remotes not being compatible let me know if you want more info

I'm still playing with this...

From my understanding, the remote keys perform 3 functions:

1. Physical lock/unlock using the key blade

2. Communicate with the vehicle immobiliser using the ID46 RFID chip

3. Provide remote lock/unlock.

A "spare" key provides functions 1 & 2 only.

I think all 3 functions are independent - you can unlock the car (and the steering lock) with just the blade. You can unlock the car, and start it, with a correctly-cut key blade, and valid ID46 RFID chip.

I also assume you can unlock the car from a fair distance without the ID46 RFID chip, too - unless the remote control in the fob talks to the ID46 RFID chip as well as the car (the car will be well outside the range of the ID46 RFID chip, so the only way the short-range ID46 RFID chip could be involved in remote central locking function is if the remote communicates with the ID46, gathers information from it, and then the remote uses that information to communicate with the car). Can anyone try checking this by pulling their remote apart, leaving the ID46 RFID chip a long way away from the car and the remote section, then seeing if the remote can lock/unlock the car?

I have looked at the chips on the key fob remote circuit board, and there's a chip made by NXP, the and a radio transmitter chip. I don't know anything about the NXP chip - can anyone else shed some light?

I am about to see of I can get my fob remote programmed through the local car key place, but they have said 307s, in particular, can be problematic...

Bye for now,

Ewan

hi
I have brand new one which I bought for my sons car which got smashed .part number6490ee.it has blank key and u will need to program it
I can send photos to your email. cost me $170 u can have it for 100

yes you are correct removing the chip won’t affect the remote function for locking but when you first code a chip it contains a package that enables the remote sequence to be synced thus pairing remote believe me 22 years in the trade and people in the network still don’t get this I once got a bag of four remotes all in pieces and customer wanted it all put back together that’s a combo you could win lotto with.
