Nice Escort. Looks pretty original. Is it stock under the bonnet? You don't see many original ones driving around in Sydney, even at small Ford outings. There's a red RS2000 with a V8 and tubbed rear end, that I often see arond Wetherill Park. Sacrilege in my opinion. I prefer a well modified Pinto motor.

I've got David Vizard's book on modifying Pinto motors. It's probably one of his best books as far as giving tips on modifying heads. Applicable to so many other engines of the period. He's actually coming to Australia this month I think (from memory), for a speaking tour. He mainly talks about GM V8s these days, even though he is known as the guru of 60s and 70s 4 cylinder Ford and BMC engine modification.

Apart from a performance exhaust she’s stock standard . No refinement and makes my 87 pug a dream to drive...

No refinement?
Years back someone at work had one that i used to service and i figured Ford did well to turn it into a rally winner.
You take the Peugeot of any era of Escort and it is a better basic car.
Where i work now a guy talks about his old RS2000 and i think of my Lancia Fulvia S2 and how great it is on dirt roads if you must take it there.
RS2000 is an iconic car, part of modern history.

What ever happened to the Fulvia is it still around?
I just found out my Fiat 124 coupe S3 is being rebuilt from the ground up except it will be red now not verde green😐
A good French or Italian classic was well refined in base form compared to the British Fords in my opinion.

Dimi,

the Fulvia was sold to Squadra Corse in Qld who did a restoration.
It went to a good home and i had another Lancia, the problem was where i live the roads being so bad.
Too nice a car to wreck.. needed the money at the time.

The Fiat 124 in the verde green looks lovely, not sure why you would repaint in red.

Hi guys,

Nice Escort! Hope you get to enjoy it.

I love these older cars also. I have a Fiat 124 CC also - in green. It is not the right colour though as it was originally silver and a previous owner repainted it green...but left the door jambs and all interior bits silver. It will have to be repainted. The exhaust sounds awesome by the way. it is unregistered with kangaroo damage at the moment.

Pity you don't still have the Fulvia Berridale but I get the rough road thing. I've also had a bunch of Lancias - have several HPEs right now actually. I had a Flavia coupe at one point. I have a hankering for a Beta coupe though.

Cheers,
James

Flavia are pretty special.

Sedans underrated. Surprisingly quick and effortless , point to point driving.

Nice one James sounds like you have a good selection of Italian classics.
The 124 coupe CC was the best of the the coupes but all had their own corrosion problems. Mine was a UK import only 4 years before it made it to NZ.
It had very unusual rusty jacking points and sills but perfect around the windows. All the NZ ones had rust around the windows like any typical italian car of that error. Had several Alfa Suds and Fiat Unos to play with. Strangely enough I kept the Fiat 132 sedan as easy to get people in and out and swapped most of 124 coupe gearbox and engine into it to take mountain biking. Still lots of fun with a revy twin cam and 5 speed box.

Any FWD Lancia was always fun at the gym kanas.

Cheers Dimi

Guys, both cars were childhood dream cars. Unfortunately I have to be honest an have zero mechanical appititude. However I love to be able to drive them when the chance arrives..
