You got 200 horses at the wheels on the 8 valve!!! nice. Is that with a race cam... cause if it is, doesnt that defeat the purpose of keeping the 8 valve in keeping the power down low...

My exact words were "pushing on 200hp"
The last official dyno run netted 142 with the previous exhaust. Yes you are correct I'm a wank if I think changing the exhaust will give 50 ponies !
You see I couldnt figure on the graph why at around 4000rpm the hp reading went nearly flat. Came down to big clutch slipage on the rolling road dyno when the torque was applied. My engine builder suspected a loss of 40 or so horses. So this is where the "pushing on 200hp" comment came from.

The old 405 BE3 box standard ratios are increadibly long. The original dyno run saw 210kph in 4th ! Max hp came in third, but with the clutch slipping who knows ?
I am really enjoying the 309 gti gear box ratios and I hope to get decent figures from the next run.

Ps, peak torque on the 8v standard is around 3300, on paper peak torque for this engine should be in the early fours. She still chugs around nicely at 2000.

Thats still preety nice,

btw i thought that 309 gear ratios are the same as the 205, id like to see what it would be like with a 1.6 GTi gearbox

the 1.6 box ratios are pretty close, unless you want to get away from the lights and thats it dont bother with it as is.
you'd waste too much time changing gears if you're doing 0-100km or the 1/4 mile, and you'll be lucky to get to 180km for the top speed.
but it can be modified to extend it a bit but still keep the short ratios in the lower gears.

Well the 309 gti box on my car seems to put power in just the rite place. Today on the way to work (at 11pm) 4th saw 180kph at 7000rpm, 5th took me to 210kph but was still pulling at 6000 .........WICKED !!

I have found 1st gear an awfull lot longer than in the standard 405 box.

A friend of mine mixed and matched some Pug and Citroen cogs for his Mi16 powered 205. It has a very long first and top top speed of 190km/h @ 7100, via a shorter diff. It's ULTRA close.

That sounds wicked ! 205 with an Mi16 is a very cool conversion ! Is he running carbs ?
I met a maniac a while ago who's just dropped a 306 GTi 6 in his 306 convertible. Awesome car. He complains now he has to change gears to much ??

Ps how is that head coming along ?

To a degree you are correct I have sacrificed some torque. But you see the top end has balls now! Which more than balances it out.
The cam is a custom profile which isn't all out "nothing under 4000rpm".
What once served as a comfortable family car is now too loud, and expensive to drive every day.
What do you drive ? A 309 I suspect.

The 205 runs a 150bhp engine (ex Bathurst Citroen BX I think). It's stock other than Haltech management, exhaust, brakes, suspension,LSD, and gearing. It weighs in at approx. 950kg with roll cage. It's very quick.

The head is still happening.

You're right. A fuel injected Mi16 in a 205 is the ultimate conversion.

Have you seen the 205 in the UK that's running a cosworth escort engine and trans !!

Sacrilege if you ask me, although 400 odd horses would be interesting !!

btw.. don't know of a LSD lying around I can put on my car do you ?

i agree peterT, the 205 16v conversion is the ultimate conversion, i have a pommie mi16 motor in my 205 and is better again than the detuned oz version although i have to be careful when ordering parts here in oz as some are different [some xuj10 components]
