Friday morning: Firstly, the gates were closed to the public, then the F1 GP cancellation was announced, and an hour or so later, the whole event has been cancelled.

Unfortunate timing for the event in light of very recent developments around the world.

A lot of heartache in that late decision, but the advice from the Chief Victorian Medical officer, and probably the incidence of Covid 19 detected in one team that had to withdraw was a large factor in the decision to cancel the whole event. Many will be disappointed but I think the risk to fans and the organisers was too great.

The cancellation at such a late stage will cause much inconvenience and some monetary loss to those who travelled and paid accommodation. A difficult decision to make. At the same time our Camera Collecting Society had organised a market event at Box Hill Town hall, a much smaller event but concerns were being raised and that Grand Prix Cancellation and the concerns re the Covid-19 also lead to the cancellation of that event also.

The losses will be in the order of a Force Majeure event - cancellation due to the emergence of a risk to the event and attendees. Sad that we are in this situation and it wasn't shortage of toilet paper or hand sanitizer! Just on balance of risk as medically advised by authorities. Our announcement is on this Society web page..APCS - Home Page

Sorry for those disappointed.

Regards Ken
