Koleos Hints, Tips, Problems

I found that if you lock the car with the card you can only unlock it with the card. If you lock the car with the switches in the door handles or the switch in the Renault badge on the tail gate you can use either the proximity or the card (if you're to far away for the proximity to work).
I rarely lock the car with the button on the card. I suspect that's "deadlocking''. I did the other night, my wife was last in the car and couldn't remember if she'd locked, so I walked back towards the car and locked it from 40 metres away. I've found the locking and unlocking gets a bit dodgy if the card's battery is low.

Apologies if this had been covered earlier, but does anyone know of a replacement part for the central display on the Koleos H45 (2009)? Ours is Privilege grade but I suspect they're all the same. The display was replaced under warranty years ago, but is going stupid again, blinking and flashing and fading out. We drove to Launceston last Saturday night (which is really adventurous for us now :)) and the display was flashing/fading for much of the journey. Plus, it was warning me of ice at -3C when it was actually around 10C. The temp display came good for the return journey. I've found a couple on Ebay, but I'm not paying $3-400 for a used unit which might start playing up. Oh, and the fade out/flashing is worse if the car's been sitting in the sun.

The temperature sensor is in the LH mirror assembly and there are multiple connection points in the door. It might pay to investigate whether they are loose, or the sensor is buggered. S/H mirrors aren't cheap I paid $270 for a non power folding unit.

Thanks Kim, I think the mirror was wet, as the car'd been outdoors for a couple of days through heavy rain. I've had issues with the parking sensors for similar reasons. I'm more concerned about the blinking centre display. especially considering it's cold, middle of winter and it used to play up more in summer.

At least the display is easily accessible in an H45. There are connections to that under the dome that may not be 100%, as well.

Finally sold the Koleos after 8 years. Got $8k for it with 140,000km. I didnt budge $1 and sold it easy. I thought the buyer got a good deal because in this market I thought it was worth $10K. Buyer paid in cash 2 hours later without a professional inspection and with 3 minute round the block test drive. This is a seller's market. The best car sale I ever had was when I sold a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 110K miles - lady brought along a mechanic, mechanic sat in the passenger seat, I drove from 2nd level car park to bottom level and never hit public roads (maybe took 30 seconds). Got sold right there. Yanks are cocky as hell.

With all the new drivers on the road with crappy cars, I found that it was harder and harder to get good mechanics to look at anything difficult, so thought it was better to get into a new car ASAP. 2 mechanics didn't even want to look at our Hyundai Tucson V6 with only 150K on the clock - what a piece of rubbish. NEVER BUY HYUNDAI. Also the 150K service interval for the CVT was coming up, and though it was running ultra smooth, thought it was better to offload her. A transmission specialist told me 150K is the sweet spot to change the CVT fluid. To change all the fluids including transfer case was another $700. Bought an AWD turbo with free servicing thrown in - nice change from the gutless NA 2.5L nissan job. Probably will be the last pure ICE car - no way gonna pay for expensive maintenance again. Dealership and labour costs spiralling out of control really. The new car is inferior to the Koleos in 3 ways: no speed limiter, no auto parking brake when car turns off and back seats don't fold completely flat. I also put 3M vinyl clear paint protection film from Amazon on the new car's headlights as I got really sick of polishing the Koleos plastic lenses from UV fade - worked out great.

I am currently contemplating new tyres for my Koleos, and the nice unused spare has got me thinking....
Mine has the Continental 4x4 Contact spare tyre (which must have matched the originals), and I have been very lucky to find another unused spare to match it at a wreckers. So now I am on a mission to find another two, as I figure it's better to use these rather than have them eventually become unusable due to age.

For reference, mine has these rims:

And the Continental tread pattern is shown below:

If anyone is aware of any wreckers in SE QLD (I'm in Brisbane) that may have one of these please let me know. I have already tried a few but with no luck. (And unfortunately one had a brand new Hankook spare, rather than the Conti.)

Alternatively, if you have a spare Conti in the Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast area and are willing to do a swap with one of mine with cash your way, I'd love to hear from you! Also happy to swap between rims if you prefer to keep yours or it is a different design. Figure it can't hurt to ask at least!

PM me if you prefer. Cheers all.

You could try A1 Global Autoparts.
They're in King Avenue in Willawong and they usually have a few Koleos' that they're wrecking.
It's a self-serve type place so the wheels are usually left of the car in the yard, including the spares.
They're not too bad price wise, well they don't try to rip you off as much as a lot of other yards.
They often advertise on Gumtree.

Cheers

Put a wanted ad for the tyre size and type on Brisbane Facebook Markets. Lots of tyre places put ads on there.

I recently needed a second set of tyres on our 2014 Koleos Expression, so I decided to use the spare, as it had never been on on the car, so told the tyre people to use it & just bought 3 tyres to match (the tyres are Kumo Solus KL 21 which were originally fitted to our car) We got 50,000 out of each set of tyres & amazingly we are still on the original brakes at 107,000.

In Victoria we can get a 4th tyre free at a lot of dealers (JAX), which means four new tyres and the spare stays in the boot. Something people will get used to when they find that their steel rimmed spare tyre is a completely different profile to the ones on their alloy rims!

Thanks mate, I went out there this past week but no luck. (I too have seen their Gumtree ads so was one of the first places I tried.) They have two on the lot at present but neither had their spare tyre unfortunately.

Think I'm going to have to do lot of calling around. Anyone have any suggestions of wreckers more likely to have a Koleos in the yard? Have already tried First Class down on the Gold Coast as well.

If you have two, you could consider keeping just fronts and rears matched pairs separately. There's no rule that says all four tyres need to match. By two new tread pattern conti's for the rear and "spares" front. When they wear to around sixty percent, swap front and rears, and when they further wear the four will be due for replacement together.

There are also a couple of wreckers in Rocklea that usually have some Koleos in the yard. I've used the one on Ipswich road but they're not 'pick a part' type places and they're not the cheapest in town. There's also APC who will likely have what you want at one of their yards.

What happened to the clock?
Updated my R-Link SIM card for my Koleos Bose 2014 yesterday and find that a lot has changed or has been 'improved' and updated, but i am still missing the clock, and nothing I do will resurrect it. Why no clock? Your learned advice, as usual, is keenly anticipated, thanks.

Hi all,

My wife's 2010 Koleos has recently started exhibiting a vibration through the car as you accelerate between 50-70kmh. Rather disconcerting for me as I know it wasn't there before. It's not massive, but I know it shouldn't be there and something expensive is likely to happen at some stage if left unchecked.

From what I can tell, it only seems to be happening when accelerating or under load (eg going uphill), at a steady speed between 50 and 70 it feels ok. Above 70 it goes away completely, whether accelerating or steady. As it has had virtually no servicing (when following Renault's service schedule to the letter) I am suspecting something may be going on in the CVT. My mechanic has always checked the fluid level and condition, but it has never been drained and replaced. Mileage is just shy of 150,000km.

It will have it's 150k service very soon anyway and I can check with the mechanic, but has anyone here ever experienced such a thing and determined the cause? Many thanks in advance.
