It was Gordini Day in La Chartre, 2002 held at a small track where I believe The Man himself was born.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/vschubert/.cv/vschubert/Sites/.Pictures/Sml%20Gday%2002/DSC02265.JPG-thumb_273_205.jpg" alt=" - " />

They race all day, it was a free for all.......

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/vschubert/.cv/vschubert/Sites/.Pictures/Sml%20Gday%2002/DSC02133.JPG-thumb_273_205.jpg" alt=" - " />

And yes Gordini's were modified too, R8G with mid mounted Turbo Motors, every thing done to the G's to make them go faster. The attitude they that was quite refreshing, not like some boring Gordini prudish owners here in Australia. G's were made to race, to be driven and enjoyed, like back in the 60's and 70's then, the french G owners are still driving hard (re Gordini day Video). When you have an R8G turbo out run and handle a R5Turbo 2, you know they are serious........... mallet

Yea I know what your saying fellas
But when they only bring out 50 to Australia and back in the early 60's, I just reckon there Track days are over. there to good to thrash.

Parts are scarse too.

There's u huge difference between driving hard and thrashing lets face it the G's were made to go hard let them out for wide open runs let them breathe just keep an eye on the tacho the red line is there for a reason.

Hey these french guy's over there do not know the meaning the a red line, they are dudes just like on the Gordini day video. They had those cars drifting every corner, sure there were spin out's, but they were totally into the driving of their cars. I saw 2ltr Clio twin cams, 5 alpine turbos and mid mounted R18/fuego turbos in the back of R8G's...... These guy's just rocked. But the funny thing was that there are hardly any RS clios or too many other sport's renos, as the french are mainly into diesels now. I managed to meet a owner in France own owns one of the 6 or so Renault Clio V6's, he was saying most sporty renaults are sold to Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy. So we are really lucky here in australia, as we hold on to our cars, most of the renault over there are Series 2 R5's, R25 d's, a few old R20's and the odd R4. Every thing before that were rare on the road........ also the renaults that LOSERS buy over there, the renault's that have a losing streak in them, R12's, Fuegos and R21's......... So if you own any of those cars, the french dude's think of you as a total loser...... strange one that one. eek!

Sorry that was one of the six or so Renault Clio V6 in France........

There are four or five in the north of france, and 2 or so in southern france. He waited more than two years of it, loves to drive it, his other car is a 355 ferarri and said said all the other V6's were sold outside france.

Just a pity Renault never got them here, but talking to him, I can see why we never got any. roll_lau

Good stuff

Hey Covert, wheres this Gordini Day Video ? can ya down load clips from a certain site. Or is it stuff you personaly took.

I'd love to see it.

I watched the video of the Clio V6 on <a href="http://www.turbo.fr" target="_blank">www.turbo.fr</a> the other night (again)

Should be a promo video for the car really, it's hard not to like it after seeing that.

I wouldn't kick one out of the garage :D

Not that strange when you think about it, those models are all cheap and nasty, especially in a country with salted roads (in parts)

Australia has it's share of "loser" cars as well (but maybe they are 10 years older!), I don't think I need to provide examples!

I assume R12 Gordini's are exempt from the "loser" status?

Great pictures Covert. Sent more please.
I here what your saying about Gordini's should be driven and believe me it's hard to behave yourself in a 160hp R12 but the facts are, there's only 6 of these in the country so who wants to risk braking one and if my car brakes a diff tomorrow it means it's off the road for months and will probably cost about $3,000 so it get driven carefully. I have competed in a few hillclimbs and I often think that if it was only a replica I would push it a lot harder.
Having said all that, keep an eye on this years classic Adelaide, there's a very wild original 12G running (if it's finished on time)

David.

I am often amazed to see things like supercharged 1920's Bentleys (worth tens of thousands of dollars) being pushed up hill climbs and around racetracks, with seemingly no regard for the accident cost.

It really impresses me to see these things driven well, rather than gathering dust in a museum.

I guess the owners have plenty of money for repairs!

Yeah thats it, plenty of money for repairs, but it's more than that, there's respect for the machinery. Enzo Ferrari once said that he would never be a great driver because he can't abuse a car like that. I know a story from a friend who was talking to an F40 owner years ago when they were new, the car was less than a year old and they ran it in the Targa Tasmania and totaled it in a big way, the owners attitude was "oh well we'll just send it back to Italy for repairs" there was over a million bucks damage. I couldn't do that no matter how rich I was. I was watching a round of the Vic motorkana championship recently and thinking I could never do that, there was reverse sections where they throw it in revese while the car is travelling foward and you could hear the gears grinding away. It sent shivers up my spinel, where only talking about cheap parts here but I can't deliberatly abuse a machine like that.
So these guys who race million dollar classics need more than just money. I remember back in the 70's my brother and his mate used to compete regulary in hot 10, Dauphines etc and often ran each others cars and the strange thing was both of them could do a quicker lap in the other ones car than the owner could. I think thats what I mean by respect.

David.
