Could someone tell me where I can find the latset in pop up zappers?
I had one that someone pointed me at a few months ago but it seemed to be getting less & less effective as the smarties started changing the titles to the pop ups and when my system went up in a blaze of glory blush  :p I lost it anyway.
The zone alarm is working well; it seems to be blocking access at the rate of about one every ten minutes for me. If I didn't have it on, I don't think there would be space for me to fit on my own computer by now

Hi Alan, sorry to piggyback, but I've got ZA too. Sometimes I get one IP repeatedly scanning a port - the other night while reading this forum this one dude repeatedly scanned a particular port 31 times (file sharing port). As I've got ZA to display a splash screen it's annoying, and I had to change this setting otherwise I couldn't use the bloody computer! Is there any way to stop this? Or do you not worry about it and ignore?

I don't run a pop-up killer, but alternatively do a scan with Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.com) every couple of days - seems to work ok for me.

You can stop the slash screen if you go to the alerts window in ZA and untick the "Show alert pop up window". This will cause a little notepad type thingy to appear on the already little ZA icon on the taskbar (if you have it showing there). You can always maximise ZA and go through the alerts log to check who's been trying to hack their way into your computer. I use ZA Pro 2.6.357 which seems to do the job.

You can always get hold of a tool like NetScan Tools and try to hack your way back into their computer. Do a scan on the netbios ports 137 - 139 and see if they have left anything open (this is probably illegal, although it can be fun)!

Cheers,

Ralph. wink

Yeah, Ralph, that's what I meant by had to change the setting. Just a bit disconcerting having it happening 31 times (and that was when I switched it off).

If you are getting your ports probed it probably means you are pingable.
You need to block outgoing port 7 & you'll find there won't be as many attacks.

Try your defenses here:

I am completely stealth & yet running an open server as well.
I'm using Sygate personal firewall which is free from www.sygate.com

Also try Steve Gibson's security site at:

Cheers,

Ralph. :p

very intersting indeed!

Gibgib,

How do I block Port 7? I've been probed too many times and it's getting a bit tiring. Boom Boom.
