Isle of Man TT 2023

Just finished watching a replay of the first Sidecar race. Gob smacking!! The Birchall brothers were simply awesome. Watching a sidecar becoming airborne is something special.
Somehow though, I am more impressed with the rider of the bike that came in third. John Holden is 64y.o.

Dave Molyneux is 59 and trying to develop the new KTM and John McGuinness is 51 and finished 6th in the Superbike race. Age is not so much of a barrier nowadays as long as you don't get injured. Its good to see the older riders out there showing the younger guys how it is done and to pass down their knowledge.

I was also impressed with the Birchalls sidecar with its front wheel in the air.

Peter Hickman had issues with his Superbike (brakes and quick shifter), he put a cracking last lap in to take 2nd place away from Dean Harrison in the Superbike race just like he did in the Supersport race.

There is another 11 races across the different classes over the next 4 days starting again on Tuesday so still plenty of action to come.

Correction:

There is another 8 races across the different classes over the next 4 days starting again on Tuesday so still plenty of action to come.

Racing back on at the Isle of Man after the rest day and being delayed due to cloud hanging over the mountain.

2nd Michael Dunlop
3rd Dean Harrison

Tuesday's 2nd race is the Supertwin with the following results:

1st Michael Dunlop
2nd Mike Browne
3rd Jamie Coward

The board for the most TT's won has changed again

Michael Dunlop 24 TT's
John McGuinness 23 TT's
Dave Molyneux 17 TT's
Ian Hutchinson 16 TT's

Have found the TT is also covered in Kayo.
Have watched the qualifying highlights which was also a pretty good rundown on the various classes.
One thing I hadn't previously thought about, that the sidecar outfits are all handmade, you don't just go out and buy one. The one they were showing and discussing was estimated at about 70k Pounds to build.
And yes, the danger of the event is beyond comprehension these days.
Will be watching the rest of it now.

All the classes are expensive, such is the way with motor sport now unless you compete in the grass routes classes such as Motorkhana & Khanacross.

The Isle of Man TT is a unique event, it is not racing handle bar to handle bar, although there is passing when the following rider has made up the 10 seconds that they were behind at the start. The IOMTT is a time trial and you are racing the clock and not the other riders, but the rider that gets around the 37.75 mile circuit the quickest is deemed the winner.

There is a road racing series that is conducted in Ireland every year where they race handle bar to handle bar on closed public roads, which is also great to watch. The riders that compete at the Isle of Man also compete in the Irish road racing series and also on the short circuits in British Super Bike (BSB).

Second side car race has been run and won.

Results for the second side car race:

1st Birchall Brothers
2nd Founds/Walmsley
3rd Crowe Brothers

The 2nd race of the Supersport has been run and won with the lap record being broken with Peter Hickman & Michael Dunlop breaking the 130 mph mark

Supersport results:

1st Michael Dunlop
2nd Peter Hickman
3rd Dean Harrison

The board for the most TT's won has changed again

Joey Dunlop 26 TT's
Michael Dunlop 25 TT's
John McGuinness 23 TT's
Dave Molyneux 17 TT's
Ian Hutchinson 16 TT's

Will Michael Dunlop equal Ian Hutchinson's 5 TT's in a year? There is three more races left to go. Also will Michael Dunlop equal or beat his Uncle Joey's all time record of 26 TT's?

2nd Supertwin race was a race of attrition with riders like Michael Dunlop, Michael Rutter, Mike Browne, Jamie Coward, Paul Jordan all getting a DNF.

Results of 2nd Supertwin race

1st Peter Hickman
2nd Pierre Bian
3rd Josh Brookes

Michael Dunlop has one race (Senior TT) left to equal his Uncle Joey's 26 TT's and Ian Hutchinson's 5 TT's in a year records. Will be interesting race because Peter Hickman got a lap record on the Supersport of 136.3 mph.

Yep, very expensive sport. The 70K Pounds, doesnt include the engine, gearbox plus other niceties. The LCR my son swung on was secondhand and quite a few years old and it wasn't cheap. The owner (Dave) and LOK then fitted a highly tune/worked Susuki GSX100 motor and gearbox. The Australian series runs two categories, F1 1000cc's and F2 600cc's. The European series is now limited to 600CC engines on both long and short framed bikes.

Senior TT has been run and won.

Senior TT results

1st Peter Hickman
2nd Dean Harrison
3rd Michael Dunlop

That makes 4 TT's for Michael Dunlop and 4 TT's for Peter Hickman this year, so Ian Hutchinson's 5 TT's in a year stands for at least another year. Also Joey Dunlop's record of 26 TT's also safe for another year.

looking forward to next years Isle of man TT to see who is king of the Mountain Circuit and if the Record Books get re-written.

Michael Dunlop is a great Bike Racer and very witty.
