INCHCAPE To Show Us How To Sell Citroens?

GM were paying $US3.70 an hour at their Shanghai plant in 2020. This was considered good and double the general wage. In France in 2017 the average hourly car worker wage was $US36.70.

Eek. Exactly 1/10 the salary. Thanks for those numbers. There'd be fewer pension benefits too in China. The salary ratio for young engineers and hydrogeologists in our Beijing office was closer to 1/4 to 1/5 I think. We certainly could get good plan drafting work done in our Jakarta office for a fraction the cost of doing it in Oz.

It's quite a difficult issue in so many ways...... There's no benefit in a race to the bottom.

The decision to produce the C5 in the Dong Feng plant in Chengdu is interesting for two reasons. It is being produced in an environment where PSA sales in China fell 56% last year so it is mainly for export to Europe and other markets. But there is also a hope that it will improve the very weak position of Stellantis in Asia. Stellantis delivers 49% of its product to Europe, 31% to North America and only 3% to the Asia Pacific.
Not everyone is impressed - Le Monde said it sends "a double signal of destruction".
Chinese cars are surprisingly expensive. Talk is the car will be priced from 157000 to 223000 Yuan which would be about $AU35000 to $AU50000.

Things are looking up for frenchies this month :)

Yes Thrifty have bought up a fleet of them, I think they got some 3008 too. Will be good to start seeing some more 508's on the road.

I just saw a Peugeot advertisement on Facebook that plug-in hybrid versions of the 3008 GT Sport and 508 GT Fastback have arrived and are available now for pre-launch test drives. This may also account for the uptick.

Have you seen the price of them? I doubt Inchcape will sell many!

They should be doing some cut price intro pricing like Toyota did for the GR Yaris, and reaching out to existing owners with enticing trade in programs. The more cars on the road and the more people talking about them the better. There are too many idiots in Australia who see Peugeot/Citroen as unreliable rubbish when that couldn't be further from the truth. I hate the obsession with Asian brand cars we have here, they don't even offer good value for money anymore.

The same was done with the 505, a lot (all white) were sold to a rental company around 1980 and they hit the used car market after a couple of years.

Like selling cars in 1950. Long waiting lists for popular models, supply short and anything with wheels sells. No evidence of a Stellantis Asia Pacific strategy yet.

The C5X is also coming later in the year.

Although given Inchcape's performance with PSA brands to date, I'm not confident things will improve much.
