PARIS (AFP) - French carmaker Renault said its Japanese partner Nissan Motor Company would contribute 847 million euros (967 million dollars) to its net profit in the second half of the year.
For the whole of 2003, Renault said it expected to book 1.706 billion euros


euros in profit generated by Nissan.


The announcement comes after Nissan posted the first fall in four years in half-year net profit although the company also reported its seventh straight increase in half-year operating profit.


The Japanese company recorded a first-half net profit of 237 billion yen (1.88 billion euros, 2.15 billion dollars) for the period from April to September, down 17.4 percent on the same period the previous year.


Renault has a 44.4 percent stake in Nissan, which has a 15 percent holding in the French group.
