Quite amazing, 82 model cars with 120,000km and leather and paint that still looks like new. One thing I found strange was the air controls in this one:

It looks far more confusing than the ones in my GR!

Surely you can't be serious?? That looks remarkably like the interior of our SR wagon...the dash controls anyway.. mallet

The lever on the far right is what has me confused. How do you select the demister or feet etc?
 
Hmmmm, good question. This setup is shown in my 505 owners manual though. Only used on cars without air-con. I don't really feel like going outside to grab the manual out of the car (too dark and chilly...) so I'll check it out tomorrow if no-one else has it figured out by then...

What's wrong with the green dash? It would match the "froggy" nature of the car! dead :rolleyes:

I'd like it.

I personally think the two tone brown and tan in the early 505s was horrible. The S1 GTi's I've been in have a different brown which was much nicer, less of a poo brown.

Blue always looked good in them, although I'd be interested to know if they had 4 shades of blue when they were new (the dark top of the dash, the pale grey/blue on the centre consol, the bright blue on the door trim and the medium blue on the backs of the seats).

Yeah I don't like the tan/brown, but I don't mind the GTi greyish brown and I like the very dark brown. I like the dark blue and the dark grey also.

I used to like all the blue dashboards, but since my sister's 89 Hyundai Ecel with blue interior, some of the 505 blues bring back unwanted memories :) .

My STI came with two tone very dark brown dash, doors and seats (not the same as the more common brown which is lighter than mine) with tan glovebox, console, etc. Needless to say I got rid of all the tan stuff (painted it black). When I get the dash redone I going to make sure they do it as dark as the doors which are a few shades darker than the current dash. I thought about doing it in black, but that might be too much black considering the seat covers are also black.

I never liked tan interiors. Even in the 1980s I hated them (so obviously the 80's were pretty traumatic for me :) ). I don't usually like light grey or light blue either.

If anyone's still interested in how these controls work, I checked out my 505 manual this is how I understand it -

The centre-left lever controls the amount of fresh air entering the cabin through the front dash vents. The top position allows the maximum amount of fresh air to enter, while the bottom position closes off the air from outside and allows air to recirculate.

The extreme-right lever allows cool or heated air to be directed between the windscreen ducts and the lower vents. The top position opens up the windscreen ducts only (for demisting), while the bottom position opens up the lower vents only.

Both levers can be set midway or at any position within their travel allowing different combinations of ventilation, like partial fresh air through the center vents together with heat for the windscreen and lower vents.

All very interesting.
