For the Dauphine fans...

True John, but if you look at Geodon's restoration/project thread on this car, he's actually done an enormous amount of work on it, rather than a full restoration.

Thread '1962 dauphine Gordini Project' https://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/index.php?threads/1962-dauphine-gordini-project.114610/
Ah yes, I wasn't meaning to be critical at all. I really like maintain + improve, as it's been my formula for ever. It would be my preference as a buyer. That said a truly superb restored DG turned up at a Muster once, correct to the last sticker. It was like a new car, not a restored car, THE measure of such things.

There's one like that in Beachport and another in Geelong John. The Geelong one is almost as good - did you know Bruce Porter? It was his, a one owner low mileage car from Adelaide.

Yes John, I know of Bruce Porter, however never met him. And yes, I know about his absolute cracker of a Gordini, now in Victoria. Some serious Dauphine envy going on here about that one, that's for sure! 😍

I knew Bruce quite well, and his R8 of course. He died not long after we moved to Perth and he had all my spare R8 panels, never to be seen again. Very sad (Bruce's death that is). He also had an R4 Forgonette, a Renault Australia service van.

I reckon the Dauphine is much the prettiest of the RERs and, in its early years, way ahead of much of its competition.

Yes, I agree John. If given the same opportunity I would now mod a Dauphine with a 16TS engine than a 4CV. More room inside, in the engine bay, and in the front for a radiator, for only another 70kg or so overall weight over a 4CV.

A slightly longer wheelbase too. They are much better cars and I guess quite rare relative to 4CVs. Why I wonder? Maybe 4CVs broke down sooner and ended up in sheds more, where Dauphines ran longer and died body-wise earlier. I don't know relative sales numbers in Oz.

You're not allowed to anything to Karen's of course.... :)

I've always wondered the same thing. One million 4CV's compared to two million Dauphine's and yet 4CV's seem almost plentiful and keep popping up out of the woodwork compared to Dauphine's.

The Dauphine is what started it all for me as a child. I'd love to get my 4CV back on the road one day, but I'd also really love to get another Dauphine one day.

The one being sold by Presley's would do just nicely 😍
