I am a new citreon c5 owner. I have a 2.2 ltr diesel 2008 Citroen c5 hatchback absolutely love the car but it has a problem. The headlight on indicator lamp is flashing on and off indicating a headlight fault. Where is place i can start the fault find the problem as the headlights appear to work ok.

Being 2008, is this an X7 or earlier series C5? 'Hatchback' suggests pre-X7. There is a TSB for at least later versions of the X7 where the dipped beam lamp flashes with the fix being a BSI update. I don't know if this applies to the 01-08 C5. Have you read the fault codes? Other than making sure everything is plugged in and nothing has been chewed by rats, that would be the next step I think.

I've had that recently with my 2002 C5.
It's water leaking into the light sensor at the top middle of the windscreen from all that rain.
I haven't had the time to fiddle with that and it's probably the sealant at the top of the windscreen that leaks.
There have been a few days of sunshine and I parked the car with the front facing the sun to dry it and that's fixed it for now.
I'm not going to fiddle more, the car will soon go to the crusher because it looks like the head gasket leaks water.

Thanks for your reply. On the Door pillar it says my car is 2008. There is no evidence of rats so tomorrow I will check all connectors. I haven't read any fault codes. Where do I find out whether it's an X7 or not.

Does the VIN contain 4HS? That would be the 2.2lt Twin turbo old shape C5. X7 is the 'new' body style from 08-'16.

Cloggz makes a good suggestion. That might be due to condensation?

This is the shape to 2008 before the X7 series arrived:

Yes, condensation, it had a hazy look.
Might be leaking into the cabin via the scuttle plenum overflowing if it has an accumulation of leaf matter. I scored a wet front carpet after the heavy rain several weeks ago so I must clean it out. As night fell the inside of the glass became very wet with condensation until I left it open to dry out.

There are a lot of gum leaves blowing aroud here and the scuttle needs cleaning very often.
No wet carpets yet.
The light sensor is at the top of the windscreen, about in front of the rear view mirror where the leaves haven't reached yet.

Thanks everyone for your input i have checked all suggestions but nothing. Today went for a drive and turned on the lights all was fine for about 15 minutes then the green light started to blink when I got home left-every thing on and checked the lights. The left hand light was out. Turned every thing off then turned lights back on after about 10 minutes and the light was back on. So next step would be to check all connectors or would the globe need to be changed out.

More information will be needed. While we have determined your C5 is one depicted above, there were a couple of headlight configurations which had conventional globes or directional units with Xenon bulbs.
If they are the fish eye Xenon units expect a hefty price and maybe a new ballast .. these Xenon bulbs are not conventional filament jobbies.
The Xenon light source is an arc, which requires a voltage boost to initiate it ...

Odd electrical faults like that can easily be due to a poor contact surface somewhere, I have used contact cleaner/lubricant on several problem contacts over the years in cars & elsewhere. Mine came from Jaycar, the electronics people, but other places may well have it too. Quick easy & pretty cheap to try before pulling things apart, use it on all the contacts to the headlamp such as the bulb itself & its socket also the multi pin plugs that go to the headlamp unit etc. If it doesen't help there is no harm done.

Good hunting

They are the fish eye directional with Xenon bulbs. Can I swap these out and replace with LED.

The directional headlights have a ballast unit bolted to the underside of the headlamp case.
