Looking forward to this one (6.00pm WA, 9.00pm somewhere East of here).

Last night's qualifying was wet, drying off towards the end. Threw up a few surprises, including Lance Stroll on pole. Verstappen visually pissed at only getting second, Perez and Albon 3rd and 4th. Until Verstappen's last lap, looked like we were getting a Racing Point front row!
Ricciardo 5th, Hamilton 6th, followed by Ocon, Raikkonen, Bottas and Giovinazzi.
Norris was looking good for a while but missed the top ten, 11th.

It was all about tyres, firstly the full wets were getting best times, then intermediates came to the fore during Q3, but with several yellow flag sectors, some were unable to put in a full fast lap.
And the brand new track surface made it harder for the teams setups, Hamilton was complaining after practice.

And an earlier evening for Aussie viewers.

The free practice was like skating on ice, the second session was little better than the first. New surface, cool weather and bit of wet all took turns at contributing to the conditions. Look up "F1 Turkey free practice" on Youtube to see how slippery it was. I tried to paste a link here, but long story, but it wouldn't play.

Fangio won 5 x F1 championships without the aid of computers, data logging, massive pit crews or aerodynamic specialists. No seat belts or Halos either and on motor bike tyres.........Hamilton has been very lucky.......:)

Or Fangio won without having to master all the tools you need to be champion now.

Ah yes, the tools! I wonder if Hamilton would have been champion if he'd been driving for Williams, or any team other than Mercedes? When you have #1 and #2 in an open championship it points to a better car, not better drivers!

No no your point was that LH wasn’t driving a horse and cart not that he was in the best car. So Fangio never had one of the best cars. Don’t try to change the narrative.

And Fangio had the best car of the time also, so did Schumacher. Still needs talent and mental ability to win championships.
I'm no real fan, but Hamilton has just done what no one else has yet in motorsport (or F1 anyway), fantastic achievement.

Just for comparison, interesting to look at A J Foyt's racing history and records. Now he was racing in an era of "no tools" that was for sure, and in many different categories.
And an interesting point I found with a quick look at AJ, which I had not realised before, is that he raced in 3 x Formula One races in the late fifties - the Indy 500 was one of the rounds of F1 between 1950 and 1960.

(Edit: Sorry for crossover with above post, dmccurtayne).

And let's not forget all the brilliant drivers from history - better than Fangio, Hamilton, Senna and all the rest - who unfortunately were born before cars were invented. Who remembers them, eh?

Like Ben Hur? 😁

And then way before Ben Hur, and recorded in the Old Testament, when Moses burned up the desert in his Triumph.
(Sorry 😊😊)

Ahh the dawn of time stories.
Hes had a rather handy team mate and also has had to not bin it to win it. Cream rises to the top. You cant deny his achievements, consistency and talent.
A great race to watch.

Correction! It says: "And Gideon's Triumph was heard all over Israel!"..............

It also mentions rugby (and Moses) in the Old Testament where it says: "And Moses punted across to Jordan".......
