Up for sale is my 1969 404 sedan. I originally purchased this vehicle as I wanted to have a 404 that was complete, in good mechanical order and had good body work. I have decided to reluctantly sell it as I have another 404 which I have decided to fully restore and this has forced me to make room for the restoration and rationalise my collection. So this beautiful example of a well presented and mechanically sound 404 is now up for sale.
The car has matching chassis and engine numbers and I am the fourth owner of the vehicle. It underwent a complete restoration some years ago when purchased from the original owner. The original purchase documents when the car was first purchased come with the vehicle. The restoration included a bare metal respray, replacement of the upholstery and carpet throughout.
Despite being in very good condition, I have done some work on the vehicle during the time I have owned it. This includes:
• Braking system overhaul including overhaul of the master cylinder and brake booster
• Replaced the proportioning valve and real wheel cylinders
• Machined front brake disks
• Repaired and adjusted the gear linkages so gear changes are seamless and much smoother
• Replaced the head gasket
• Replaced the rocker cover
• Fitted electronic ignition
• Replaced engine mounts
• Replaced fuel pump, fuel lines and filter
• Replaced the battery
One thing I haven’t done is repair a couple of splits in the driver’s seat upholstery. The bodywork is showing some minor blemishes, but is in overall very good condition.
The 404 drives superbly and is very sound. The car is currently on Club Plates (non-transferrable) and will be sold with a RWC. $15,000.
Sorry some of the photos are on their side - couldn’t work out how to change them.
