Did any of the 70s-era cars (504, 604, etc) come with the engine bay painted only in primer or a different color from the exterior? I've seen historical photos indicating the engine bay to be body color, pale gray, or brownish red. I have no other insights to this hence posing the question to the forum experts. Many thanks ...

From memory European versions of the 604 did have a grey paint in the engine bay, done to save cost on the production line.

From at least the 203, French built Peugeots did not have body colour applied to the under bonnet area.

All 604s in Australia were French assembled, and had engine bays painted in grey primer.
