Dspecial restoration 1975

PS. The clock IS nice but I think they are cheap. I spent $250 to get one repaired. When I eventually got it back after more than 6 months waiting and many, many phone calls it was gaining 5 minutes a day and couldnt be adjusted.
The new one is cheaper and keeps perfect time.
I have had it going for 2 months and still spot on.

Hi David
I like this clock very much its so much easier to set up, just touch the button and the ends starts spinning around electrically, too easy.

Absolutely, i will be looking forward to see you at the french car day make sure to bring the DS23, Im quite close to finish this project now and cant wait to drive it :dance:

Could not resist just bought a restored dash cluster see pictures below with LED lights, speedo in kilometres with temp gauge and nice chrome so my old dash cluster is for sale still in great condition in miles and no broken corners $240 fully functional (can provide pictures if interested}

Philippe - that instrument panel is wonderful. This car is going to be very very special.


PS - just awaiting for my D Special to obtain its RWC and registration and then let the photos commence ;-)

I have bought a pretty original 1974 D Special. I would like to maintain that as much as possible. I definitely will be looking at getting new seat covers, re-paint the left side wing and rear door (so it blends in with the rest of the car) and just enjoy driving it. I would also want to install a new steering wheel at some point.

The car will be used for my sister's wedding in October (along with the 2CV) so I just want to make sure it is ready by then.

I do like many of the upgrades that you have put into your various projects so maybe down the line, I can think about doing that (LED Dash Lights, KM/H Speedo etc).

DSpecial restoration 1975

Very busy the last few weeks unfortunately not on the Dspecial, here is a quick update the last guard has now been reassembled and all electrical are spot on I had to replace all connectors under the Dash cluster due to bad oxidized contacts, the new dash cluster has been fitted looks really beautiful and the next job is to refit and adjust the bonnet locking devices and refit the light steel cables ect ect.... Just another day or two to complete and Club rego will be organized. one of the front rebuild sphere is RS never stops does it

Syd, there is 1/2 a tin of matching paint in one of the boxes I foisted on to you. That should be enough (if it hasn't dried up) to 'blow' over those blemishes. Failing that the correct formula for the paint is contained in the file of expenditure that was also foisted on to you.

Geez, I seem to have a lot more room in my 'dog house' now you have most of the spare 'stuff'.

DSpecial restoration 1975

Well yesterday was a very productive day a fair amount of work has been completed, all done except the rubber under the boot lid needs to be fitted, the plate and aluminium trays received from italie also needs fitting and now waiting for the stainless steel plates which covers the lower section of the chassis .

That's not all that happened yesterday the best was to drive it for the first time on the road been club registered now, unbelievable the car drive sooo nice no vibrations and very smooth as a DS should be, the steering very direct with the new retro tires not balanced as yet but no vibrations at all, the brakes very responsive the seats sooo comfortable, the little solex carburetor also very responsive, the motor pulls so well and there is no winnings sounds in forth gear and the gear synchro is perfect. Simply love this car, Many thanks to my son for helping me in completing this beauty now named Mr Grey. the car will be displayed at silverwater park on the 16th of july.
13 months to complete the restoration from the day we picked up this car in a farm shed in Mudgee to this day.
