Thanks Peter. It would have been nice to know the end results if Renault chose to go with Matra in those days instead of Alpine. When they withdrew support in 1968 it became an instant battle for Matra as they went/had to go with the 2l V4 German Ford engines.
Apparently the fact that Redele's father was a Renault agent at the time was the deciding factor.
Henry, with my visit to Scamp 18 months back he told me the story that they kept the revs down to 8000 for reliability. At one stage they started blowing motors for no reason, until they found the problem with a faulty low reading rev counter. It was reading low by approximately 2000 rpm! I would have loved to had the spares availability that they had.
